I was born May 16, 1979 in San Francisco, and grew up in Marin County, CA. I've been playing bass since I was about 15, and was first attracted to the instrument from listening to players like Les Claypool of Primus, and Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I studied jazz in high school, and with my uncle Jeff Levin who is a brilliant pianist. I was interested in many different kinds of music, discovering styles like reggae, hippy jamband rock, funk, acid jazz, etc.
I started college at Humboldt State University, but soon found their music program wasn't for me. There was no electric bass program, and my upright teacher was primarily a classical cellist! So I wound up in a little town in canada called Nelson, B.C. There I attended Selkirk College's Contemporary Music & Technology program, and earned a degree in music performance, while playing in many different jazz, funk, blues, fusion, reggae & rock bands.
I landed back in the bay area in September 2001 (great timing, eh?) Since then, I've been getting involved with all sorts of musical projects, mostly jazz or funk related, and have played S.F. venues such as The Boom Boom Room, The Elbo Room, Pier 23, Rockit Room, Last Day Saloon, as well as many clubs around Marin and Sonoma County, and private events.
