Tvice is a Portland based collection of musicians with a funky and soulful sound. The group joined together in 2003 and has been busy developing their individual style since. Travis and Jason (aka Happiness) met while playing together at a seminar and the two instantly gelled. With similar musical tastes and styles, the two students of music theory and avid fans of black gospel began building some musically challenging pieces. When they were asked to lead worship at The Well, a church plant in Portland's inner city, Danny Hailey, a gospel drummer from Seattle, joined them. An instant connection sparked between the heavy-handed gospel play of "D" with the funk/rock of Travis and Fred Hammond-esque bass lines of Jason. Starting a band came months later as they realized their love to play music together. At that moment Tvice began forging ahead to uncover a distinct and satisfying expression of their love for God and music.
The sound of this group is thick. Melodically and rhythmically this trio constantly pushes to incorporate an eclectic repertoire of rock, gospel, and soulful tunes. They possess depth between just three musicians as they bear their hearts through worship and music. One peculiar dynamic to Tvice is the role of the bass as more of a lead instrument. While responsible for bass lines and phat-grooves, Happiness also supplies melody on his instrument.
