Biography
Ms Lady Kayne is a creative, dedicated, talented, lightening rapper whose astonishing ability to ride reggae rhythms with hip hop lyrics has brought her immediate and commanding attention within the dancehall and hip hop arenas. It is only a matter of time before Ms Lady Kayne a purple-haired rapper, becomes a household name for her lyrical ability and for her success in defining a unique path in blending two popular genres – dancehall and hip hop.
Ms Lady Kayne is a small town girl with big city dreams. She hails from Butler, Alabama, a town with less than 1000 people and she was always bless with a gift to cleverly weave mundane thoughts into exciting poetry. As a youngster at school she would make songs from her school lessons so that she could remember the subject matter and she found herself creating rhymes from her history and science lessons, much to the delight of her class mates. It was little surprises then Miss Lady Kayne was fourteen, she was a member of a gospel group called RFC, Rappers for Christ. The opportunity set her careers in motion.
But the rapper really shot to prominence when she found herself on the front page of the Choctaw Advocate, a publication in Alabama, for being denied the opportunity to perform one of her rap songs at her school’s Black History month program. “The school at the time felt rap music was inappropriate to celebrate Black History. The white kids were allowed to perform their music and I was not allowed to perform. I had to prove that not all rap music was negativeâ€, she lamented.
The front page featured created waves in surrounding communities. It brought attention to her abilities and opened new doors and before long she was getting offers to joined others groups in the Southeast. She worked with a few local producers, did a year of teacher in college in Mississippi but her true aspiration was to launched a successful solo career in music.
Less than a year ago, armed with an insatiable passion to fulfilled her musical fantasies, Ms Lady Kayne suddenly left her job and her boyfriend (who didn’t believe in her) in Alabama and jumped in her car to Atlanta with two bags, a dream and no place to stay. She felt convinced that Atlanta was a creative melting pot, and the place where she needed to be.
It worked. She quickly landed on her feet and within a few months of her arriving in Atlanta she got gobbled up by New Creation Records, where she is now working on her first solo album. The sizzling set, to be called “COLORS†features fourteen tracks and showcase her mastery at rapping to reggae beats, with blazing, spit-fire lyrics. The album speaks to the theme of love, relationships, and everyday life situations. She of course writes her own lyrics and she gets much of her inspiration from her own life experiences.
