About Me

Ok, a few things I’d like to get straight: I like ‘66 Chargers better than ‘68s. I like Rambler Marlins better than them, and at the top of my Muscle car heap are ’66 Barracudas. Note: they’re not “’Cudas.” I like Ferraris, but I don’t like Ferrari. I like maps better than sat-nav, and a compass better than either. I like Porsches, ’32 three-windows, Bugs, Ghias, Tatras, Alfas, Alpines, Gordinis, Abarths, ’58 Impalas, ’57 Oldsmobiles, Duesenberg Js, Jide Barchettes, Matras, 300Sls, 300SLRs, C300s, 507s… I can’t think of anything more boring to do with a car than spend an afternoon letting some marque-specific know it all stick his nose in every crevice to decide it’s worthy of a trophy. I can’t imagine anything more heavenly than an open, winding road and a desert sunrise. I understand the issues of global warming and oil dependence, and that cars aren’t primarily responsible for either of them. I understand too that a Prius isn’t going to help out in much, so I'm not interested in one. I can’t help it. I live for the rumble and the wail and the scream. I can’t apologize for it; I really don’t feel very sorry. I like cars, they get me jazzed like nothing else does, and I’ll miss them when they’re gone. After all I remain, the Gearhead; all I can do now is enjoy the ride while it lasts…

Chasing William's Ghost.

It's on the way back down the course that everything suddenly falls into place. For more than an hour Evan and I have been running up the hill from Cahuenga Pass, looking for the corners listed on a ...

This has already been posted as a bulletin, but Ryan, Evan and I thought it would be cool to link these together as blog posts. It's not too long by MySpace survey standards, but I thinkit'll be a fu...

Just, you know, FYI and stuff...

Some of you may have noticed that it's gone a bit quite around these parts lately, and that's for a good reason. After more than a year of tormenting my friends with a barrage of stuff at best only d...

My weekend full of cars.

A while back I started a folder on this profile called simply Spotted. The idea was that, while car enthusiasm can certainly be an expensive hobby these days, it doesn't have to be because interesting...

Google Street View, use with caution...

They've changed something about the front; I don't know what, but something's different. The photo is very grainy at this level of zoom, so some of the features are a little fuzzy, still...I didn't me...

Trevor Wilkinson 1923-2008

It's another slightly sad report for the Diaries, TVR founder Trevor Wilkinson has died at the age of 85.  It's hard to be sad in many ways as by all accounts Mr. Wilkinson had what can...

The age in which we live...

I don't usually do this as I like for this blog to be pretty exclusively about cars (occasional detour aside), but whilst cruising Gawker Network this morning a blurb on Consumerist caught my eye. It...

Need you any further proof?

As those of you who live in or near the valley know, last night was a hot one. The temp in Burbank during the day was in the high nineties, and the evening didn't really cool down until sometime afte...

The definintion of "hardcore."

You see, this is why I don't drive rally cars. This is what can happen, and if it happened to me, I'd be sent running home crying to my mom like a little bitch with a skinned knee. But not this guy,...
