About Me

JIGZAG create music that is filled with hope and passion and drive, illuminating lyrics and dynamic instrumentation, lush harmonies and joyous energy. In the 12 years they've been together the band have toured festivals in UK, Denmark, Finland and Canada where they received standing ovations and accolades from the press, and festival audiences and organisers alike.
They've appeared on main stages of the major Australian festivals and most recently were awarded the 2009 Golden Fiddle Award for their live performance. In 2006 the trio was voted "Best Live Act" by the Australian Folk Alliance at the National Folk Awards in Canberra. The music is very eclectic yet seamless in it's blending of styles, all with an intention to uplift each other and the audience alike. Jigzag have released 4 albums and now have their very own live DVD."JIGZAG FLYING LIVE"
Joy-filled and thought provoking songs. Awe inspiring musicianship- both vocal & instrumental. Compelling and connected performances full of energy & life. Seldom do these qualities seamlessly unite in a single band and even more rarely are they sustained for over a decade. "Jigzag Flying Live" is an Australian story worthy of being told. Finally, all your favourite Jigzag moments - captured live on stage. A visual feast of their best songs shot at the finale of their 10th anniversary tour. Launched in Oct 2008.
Jigzag features Liz Frencham (double bass, vocals), Caroline Trengove (violin, percussion, vocals) and Greg Bryce (guitar, vocals)
Their Live CD was voted Hottest Contemporary Folk CD 2006.

"One of Australia's most popular acoustic festival bands, Jigzag, are a gifted trio that's a must see on the festival circuit. They're wonderfully eclectic, virtuosic, energetic and thought provoking all at the same time. "
Nick Charles (Rhythms Magazine-Feb 2008)
"Sheer vivacity, musicality and inherent ability to entertain" (Tony Hillier-Rhythms Magazine 2002)
"As a unit Jigzag are as tight as a jigsaw, though there's always space for spontaneity. It's a perfect blend of instrumental skills and voices. Greg Bryce (guitar), Elisabeth Frencham (upright bass) and Caroline Trengove (violin/viola) fit together like interlocking pieces. They read each other's moves like reef fish. All innovative players and singers, lead and harmony, they also have a flair for writing catchy yet thought-provoking songs. Their folky pop contains bright splashes of jazz, blues, classical and Celtic."
"Live performance is Jigzag's lifeblood so it's nigh tantamount to stating the bleeding obvious to say that the new album shows off their best qualities. Recorded before a studio audience in Melbourne and at festivals in Victoria and Queensland, Live! stands as eloquent testimony to the Sydney trio's stage artistry."
"Sheer vivacity, musicality and inherent ability to entertain"
(Tony Hillier-Rhythms Magazine)
"Jigzag were a revelation! This three-piece high energy band from Sydney combine Celtic snap, heartfelt ballads and punchy folk with energetic, joyful stage presentation. See them if you ever can. Buy their CD. It's on the web."
Steve Baker
Tablelands Folk Festival
Yungaburra, Qld
"The coalescence of voices sends shivers down the spine, and there's no greater tribute to musicians than that they can make ring, like a spoon on a glass, a resonant chord within."
"The trio, of guitar, violin and double bass, blend acoustic folk, pop, Celtic, jazz and even country swing; these streams flow into a river that glistens on the surface with sunlight, yet has a musical and emotional depth to it."
(Warwick Mc Fadyen, The Sunday Age, Melbourne)
