SONS OF THE SUN

About Me

MyGen Profile Generator It all started with a wave. As if it wouldn't. Brothers of the Sun Matt Sonic and Johnny Rollins were pulling wanna be grommets through a 3 foot Northerly when a random air drumming episode started the questions that led them into Pan Studios. Maybe it was the shiny 70's Kit, maybe the union of 2 wayward heads, but something clicked and in a month of sandy footed jams, Sons of the Sun were born.
2006 saw some supports, The Hard Ons, 28 Days, Cosmic Psycho's (last Rocket show RIP) and Legends of Motorsport, before a peaking show with Magic Dirt at Ballarats Karova Lounge. The Sons also found Kindred Brothers and Sisters in the regional magic of Mock Turkey (Friday the 13th Madness!!!), The Killer Birds, and Havana Allies.
It's probably once in a crazy moon you meet someone your absolutely mean't to, and one crazy moon in Bendigo a hooded Dean Dirt explored music and the world in general with Matt and Johnny. A producer was found. Finally excited about opening the can, general master Sloth (Jack Daniels and Yoghurt Lollies) tracked the Blues and Anti Pop at Head Gap studios in Thornbury. Alpines, JD, Sonic Blasts, Thunder Calling, Green and Cobain.
When the wave peaks, a 3ft lowtider closes on a bank, and you give it all, the wind rushes, rail slides, and sound flows like a river...

CD REVIEWS
'Sons Of The Sun' Sons Of the Sun (Sonic Sound) Warning : Tighten your shoelaces before playing this ep because these southern OZ surf boys are gonna blow ya socks off. Humping unbelievable sound for a two piece, Matt Sonic and Johnny Rollins supposedly formed the concept of the band whilst out in the surf. Yeah maybe? Matters not what the genesis was, just be glad it happened at all because the Ep is an all-out, balls-out, get-ya rocks-off romp , with riffs that they must take to gigs in a truck and a bottom-end you could drag the ocean floor with. Siix songs of chainsaw guitars, no frills, f uck the cream, fuck the sugar, old fashioned rock without the roll. No news of a Queensland tour at this stage but keep your ears and eyes peeled because it's gotta come, and when it does? Get thee front and centre.

SONS OF THE SUN Sons of the Sun, Sonic Sound Records.
Don't be too hasty in judging SOns of the SUn based upon their blues'n'rootsready name/album artwork/band photography - produced by Dean Dirt, this two-piece maeks a fiercely efficient, frequently purely instrumental, stoner-y riot (without bass, quel horreur!); BYO beer soaked carpet and small roomful of sweaty punters. SONS OF THE SUN Self Titled, Sonic Sound Records.
SOns of the Sun have been jamming around g-town since last year and steadily set about destroying every venue with their killer broand of stoner rock fuzz. For a two piece, Matt and John belt out a thunderous sound that has to be seen live for full effect of thesse two mad bastards cutting sick, but this sonic boom sounds even better with Magic Dirts's Dean Turner behind the knobs. He's sucessfully captured their sound and kept things simple cos I really don't think the band needs much more. Theypre reputation as one of the best live acts currently kicking around the sleepy hollow is justified. For fans of sun, sand and psychedelic fuzz, they are the one my baby!!

Rave Magazine Brisbane
SONS OF THE SUN – Sons of the Sun (Sonic Sound Records) Simplicity, catchiness, and a love of the surf This band was inspired by a love of the surf, and as such their name, and even album artwork fits in with this passion. But if you were to pick up this album thinking it was a laid back, smooth release to listen to whilst watching the waves roll past, you’d be mistaken. It’s a loud, energetic, fast paced rock release. Calling Mercury, the final song here, uses the ol’ soft then loud trick, to its advantage. The first five songs are all short, fast and loud, and they stick in the head. Each track follows a very simple, traditional rock formula; there’s nothing remotely complex about the sound. The similarity of each song’s sound brings with it a sense of déjà vu, as one song ends and the next begins. However, the very nature of its simplicity and catchiness will win just as many fans – if not more – than it will lose out on. KATH POLLOCK
