In other words great going my man! Love it!" Ben Wolf, New York on hearing Steve's latest album "THE WORLD OVER". ____________________________________________________________ _ "Imagine Jimi Hendrix teaching Rick Wakeman how to play guitar, or John Coltrane teaching Hank Marvin how to play the keyboards" Kim Fletcher Rock Music Critic, Pattaya Mail, Thailand reviewing Steve's "CONVERGENCE" album. ____________________________________________________________ __ "Steve was one of the original UK synthesists along with Ian Boddy and Mark Shreeve. "OPENER OF THE WAYS" finds him all the years later right up there still as one of the most innovative neo-cosmic explorers. This album shows he's the best composer of music of them all. The themes and soundscapes are magnificent and incredibly evolved making this a great, organic electronic music album". Archie Patterson, Eurock, USA. ____________________________________________________________ __
Steve was born in Birmingham, England and has been a musician since the early 1980s. Heavily influenced at that time by 70s Tangerine Dream and Hawkwind, he became a part of the underground UK synth music scene. Playing synth, keyboards and guitar, over the course of the 80s he released ten cassette albums and played live at several music festivals. His cassettes were regularly played on radio stations around the world and were distributed in Europe and the States.Steve has always been drawn to a wide genre of music from medieval, baroque, classical, folk, eastern, film, pop, rock, etc and all were to leave a mark on his musical output over the ensuing years. In 1993 Steve, whose music by then had taken a more progressive rock direction, was signed to the UK prog rock record label Cyclops Records. In 1994 they released his debut CD titled "MATRIX". Three further albums followed: "RIDING THE STORM" in 1996, "CONVERGENCE" in 1999 and "OPENER OF THE WAYS" in 2002. ____________________________________________________________ __ Having pursued electronic music and progressive rock music over previous decades, Steve was keen to pursue new musical territory. One of his first musical influences was the film composer John Barry and Steve had long held the ambition to develop his musical composition and style along the lines of Barry's musical scores with the emphasis on melody, drama, adventure and mystery.Throughout the 90s Steve had assembled a lot of material in such a vein and his ambitions became realised when Chicago based Dreamfast Cinema signed him up in December 2005. Recording of the resultant album, "THE WORLD OVER", was completed in Guildford, London in March 2006.Some highly acclaimed and respected musicians are featured on the album such as Gareth Davies the principal flutist of the London Symphony Orchestra and Iain Ballamy the internationally renowned sax player. Rain, creator of the critically acclaimed "CERULEAN BLUE" album, produced the album as well as playing bass and guitars. ____________________________________________________________ __ Steve is also a member of a progressive rock group called Ra. Back in 2004 he was asked by his long time friend and fellow Cyclops recording artist, the guitarist and bassist Rob Andrews, to play keyboards and synths on a new project Rob was working on with the guitarist and keyboard player David Groves.Rob decided to expand the project to become a group based album with Rob, David & Steve all contributing to the arranging and writing of the tracks. With Rob on bass, David on lead guitar and Steve keyboards, the group became complete with the addition on drums of Dai Rees. The resultant album "WAKE" was released in June 2007. A compilation of new mixes and alternate versions of tracks from the album plus unreleased solo tracks was released in January 2009 called "RA RISING". Plans for a third album are now well underway with vocalist Richard Benjamin joining the band.
