Despite my “dark” poetry, I am actually a pretty happy person.
I’m obsessive about my work; I am constantly writing, revising and reading as much as I can.
I don’t really care if you “agree” or “disagree” with my “political views” because sometimes I don’t even “agree” with my “political views”.
I am always looking for someone to write/record/"jam"/collaborate with.
I am currently a sophomore at East Stroudsburg University, majoring in Political Science, minoring in Women's Studies and English: Professional Writing. I love receiving letters, message me for my address!
I was the youngest out of seven finalists in the Emerging Writer’s Contest at the first annual WordFest in April 2006. I have two chapbooks and a CD out. I was recently asked to be the Featured Young Writer in the 2007 Metuchen Musings, a poetry anthology. My poem, “The Lake House” will be published in the second issues of the “Incandescent Donut” a teen literature magazine published by The Edison Arts Society. The Edison Arts Society also honorably mentioned my poem "Non-Haiku From Selinsgrove" in their annual teen writing contest.
More recently I'm serving my third semester as the vice president of ESU’s People Representing Individual Diversity in Education (PRIDE) and I've coordinated several demonstrations and lectures on campus about Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender issues. Most recently, I received the Shelby Starner Award for Social Justice and attended the PASSHE Women’s Leadership Institute. I just finished a summer internship at Freedom to Marry in New York City. If I'm not in class, chances are I'm at the Women's Center on campus.
I host FREE open mics geared toward youth anytime I can. And...you know.. I'm not gonna lie...but... my live show is totally better than my recordings so you totally should come out and support. Yeah, I really do talk like that too.
Oh, and I'm not one of those people who tries to play it off like they're too busy to check their own myspace, so they have someone else look at it for them because they're to fancy and important to check it themselves. No. I'm a college sophomore who doesn't drink; I have PLENTY of free time on my hands to check this.
my love of poetry + my love of New Jersey = my love of NJ SLAM.
I am a supporter of 4-H, NJ S.L.A.M, The Love Movement, and all other organizations that make the world a better place by empowering youth.
Say "hi" to your mom for me, thank a veteran, read to a child, do your best, don't be afraid to try; the worst thing that can happen to you is you fall and the best thing that can happen is you can fall in love.
