CoCo 'Cognac' Brown is an extraordinarily gifted souljazz singer pianist, composer, arranger, recording artist who has crafted a unique rapport with international audiences, dazzling them worldwide. Thus far, CoCo ‘Cognac’ Brown has performed at engagements throughout the West Indies, South America, North West Africa, Canada, the United States, and Europe. Her exceptional talents and rich smooth vocal tones compliment her international sound; an eclectic mix of soul, jazz, rock, hip hop, and house. She describes her musical style as souljazz based.
As a Canadian, born of Jamaican/Panamanian parentage and African ancestry, CoCo 'Cognac' Brown is strongly influenced by her grandmother’s initial piano instruction, followed by her formal piano training at the prestigious Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada. This has lead CoCo 'Cognac' Brown to composing and arranging all of her music. CoCo 'Cognac' Brown has more than 43 original songs in her repertoire. “souLuscious..." marks the first of many CD productions by CoCo 'Cognac' Brown. CoCo 'Cognac' Brown was also selected by the National Film Board Of Canada to be featured in a 48min. documentary filmed about her life as a Toronto subway musician and recording artist. The documentary chronicles a segment in the life of this rising super star. It is entitled “Underground†directed by Lana Lovell. The documentary successfully won the top award at the 2004 Motor City Film Festival, in Detroit, Michigan, for ‘Best Documentary 2004’. It has since been re-worked into a 24min. television half hour and was accepted into the prestigious Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in 2006, where it was nominated for the festival’s ‘Best Documentary Short 2006 Award’.
CoCo 'Cognac' Brown has performed with many stars such as Gregory Isaacs, Jamiroquai, Quest?Love, Eddie Griffin, Maxi Priest, Shaggy, Geno Young, Erykah Badu’s and Kirk Franklin’s band members, just to name some. Furthermore, CoCo 'Cognac' Brown has performanced at countless world renowned events such as: "The Annual Vermont Reggae Festival", "The Vancouver Folk Music Festival", "The Global Roots Festival", "The DuMaurier Jazz Festival", "International Women's Day Celebration", "The New Music West Festival", "The Black Lily" in New York City and Philadelphia, USA, and "The North By North East Music FestivaI (NXNE)â€, among many others.
