About Me

Settled in 1670, I was the 14th town formed in Bristol County. In the 1900s, the whaling industry was booming and my fleet had eight vessels sailing out of Westport Point. I have a beautiful river with two branches: the East and West Branch. The river is difficult to enter and local knowledge is required. There is quite a bit of tourism in the summer, which the locals see as a love-hate relationship. Summer residents, better known as SKUKES (named after the bird that comes around in the summer and flocks in the winter), have the reputation of being snobby and rude. They bombard the beaches, cause the prices in Lee's to sky rocket and might kill you at the gas pumps at Cumby's. The state beach, Horseneck Beach, is visited by millions every summer and people come from all over to experience this gorgeous beach. The locals can be found at Cherry & Web Beach, Baker's Beach, Elephant Rock and Boat Beach.
