The early days of Gethsemane were nothing more than two guys jamming on the porch of a Sydney terrace. Since 2003 a shared passion to express life, love and spirituality through music has seen this 4-piece evolve into a band with a big sound and a powerful live performance. Their music provides an unrestricted view into the soul.
Powered by the rhythm section of drummer Luke Fowler and bassist Corey Sellwood, the sound is glued together by the layered guitar work of Matt Bourne and wrapped in the compelling vocal of singer Mat Beltran. The end result defies direct comparison, but is clearly built on solid songwriting.
Gethsemane’s infectious blend of rock, soul, blues and funk has seen them gather a devoted following around many of Sydney’s live music venues, including The Factory Theatre, The Metro, The Annandale Hotel and The Gaelic Club, as well as many other local venues. The band has also played a range of festivals including The Peats Ridge Festival, EasterFest and Black Stump, and embarked on several regional tours throughout Australia. Their songs have received air time on local Sydney radio stations FBI and Heart 103.2 and community stations in the USA.
In late 2007 Gethsemane teamed up with producer Syd Green (Matt Tonks, iota, Dirty Lucy, Lovebucket, The Vanguard) and engineer Chris Vallejo (Sneaky Sound System, Katie Noonan, Luke Steele, Bluebottle Kiss, Pnau and many more local Aussie artists) to produce their fourth release GET SOMEWHERE, out through Hellman Records in May 2008.
January 2008 saw the band head to the USA to play some shows and to gain insight into the music industry in America. This proved to be a fruitful time and will see the band head back to the USA in late 2008 for a coast to coast tour.
