About Me

The next release for Low Pressure Productions is the sound track to Life Like Liquid, a film by Dave Rastovich. Available now at Switch-foot.com

Life Like Liquid" is an exploration into the creative realms of surfing, sound and fluidity. This is what happened when a group of sonic surfers came together with no other intention than to ride sound waves, ocean waves and record the thrill of the ride. The plan was to have no plan at all. To allow intuition, chance and circumstance be our compass within every moment. The improvisational aspect shared by these two art forms is the escence of the Life Like Liquid experience.
The soundtrack was played and recorded in a beach house that was converted into a makeshift studio right on the dunes with views over the best waves in the region. The crew that were present just jammed, surfed, ate and slept every day for a two wk period. Heaven.

We put the word out amongst the whole network of wave riders and sound creators that weve met over the years. Some of the crew who came included Ash Grunwald, Terepai Richmond (d.i.g., the Whitlams), Tony Hughes (King Tide), James Cox (Groove Dally), Jim Banks, Chris Lane & Stu Fergie (Oka) Colin "Fingers Malone" O'Rielly (The Winnie Coopers), Lawrence Eastland (Sound Foundation),Shannon Sol Carroll and OJ Newcomb (Afro Dizzi Act, Band of Frequencies). Some were there for the whole time, others just popped in for a couple of days. Everything we played was totally improvised. No rehearsals, no planning, no one conducting proceedings in any way. It was just a matter of press record and go.
Low Pressure Productions organised the recording, mixing, mastering and production of the soundtrack. We were blessed with the presence and skills of sound engineer Justin Tressider, who documented every note, rhythm and sound that happened inside the house. OJ Newcomb and Sol Carroll (LPP) then spent a few months sifting through the 50 hours of music that was recorded till the most inspired and fluid jams were found. Each track was then tweaked, mixed and mastered to bring out the best in the performances and the vibe in the room at the time. The mixes were done with Anthony Lycenco at Rocking Horse studio's and Jeff Lovejoy at Blackbox Studios. Mastering was by Steve Smart at 301 studios, Sydney.

This is the preview for the film.

Band of Frequencies recently toured the East Coast of Australia with an audio visual show for the launch of Dave Rastovich's movie, 'Life Like Liquid'. Sol and OJ from BoF produced the soundtrack to the movie which features a selection of some of Australia's best artists. (King Tide, Ash Grunwald, Afro Dizzi Act, Oka, Winnie Coopers) On the tour they experimented with playing live soundtracks to footage by legendary surf cinematographers George Greenough, Albe Falzon, Jack McCoy and Dick Hoole.
The ‘Band of Frequencies’ deliver a rootsy concoction of heavy groove, free soul, dub reggae influences, drum driven psychedelic journeys and ambient instrumental soundtracks.
"Prepare to have your musical thirst quenched. Byron Bay's Band of Frequencies - featuring style master Dave Rastovich, seated in indian style and bare foot, providing melodic percussion - dabbles in the whole pallet of musical genres; Bluesy rock drips away into skull-melting lullabies that pitter-patter like rain into jazz-fusion hippy grooves that inevitably wander off somewhere else altogether." -Travis Ferre SURFING Magazine, US.
