About Me
Andy Norman was born in Montgomery, Alabama. He grew up influenced by many different styles of music. Hank Williams was one of his first musical heroes. Andy's parents had a large record collection which consisted of everything from Fats Domino to Merle Haggard, Bill Black's Combo, Ray Price, Marty Robbins, Jimmy Reed, and all the big country stars of the 50's, 60's, and 70's. He was also influenced by many of the great southern gospel quartets. There were many sunday mornings he would wake to the Gospel Jubilee TV show, with the Happy Goodman Family, The Inspirations, The Florida Boys, etc. What great music! His biggest country music influences were Hank Sr., and Merle Haggard. He is a huge Elvis Presley fan too. Andy recently has become friends with the legendary Ray Price, and enjoys Ray's music very much. He enjoys any time he can visit with Mr. Price, a true legend. His biggest heroes without a doubt, are Jesus and his parents, Luther and Peggy who have gone home to be with their LORD JESUS. "They were always my biggest supporters, and I miss them very much", says Andy. Andy and his family moved to the small south Alabama town of Highland Home when he was in the 4th grade. It was here that Andy first witnessed "live" music. It would have a huge influence on his love for music. He received his first guitar as a birthday present on his 12th birthday. He always knew somehow from birth, that he wanted to play and sing. He met some musician friends in school and started a "weekend" band. They played many programs, and functions thru the years, at school. On weekends, they would play a local "family" dance hall. After graduation, he started playing with some of the best "local" pickers around the Montgomery and south Alabama area. Andy not only plays guitar, but enjoys playing banjo from time to time. At a younger age, he and his family would take trips to many bluegrass festivals in the south. Andy was happy to call "Steel Guitar Legend" Don Helms and his sweet wife Hazel, his friends. "It has been such an honor to be friends with these people who were such close friends with Hank Sr". Don passed away in 2008, but Andy continues to be close friends with his sweet wife Ms. Hazel. Andy is honored to be the last person to tour with Don Helms in the USA before his death. Andy will always cherish those memories from his time on the road with Don and Hazel! Andy continues to play regularly in different venues, and enjoys playing and living his musical dream. Andy would like to thank GOD, his family and his manager Rose "Vegas" Waters, for all the support and belief in his music.
