About Me
DJ BIG JEFF BIO:
“Without music there’s no life†That’s what Jeff said when he was just about 10 years old. He’s always been drawn to the art form of Djing, manning the musical selection at family gatherings and house parties when he was a kid.
At the age of 15, his older brother got a set of turntables and from that moment forward he began developing his own style but never shared his secret passion until the day he attended a block party in his neighborhood where a DJ contest was taking place.
His brother and peers dared him to get involved, and he did, to their surprise he won the competition and the attendees were in awe that a young person was so skilled. From there he was on his way and began to hone his skill as a battle DJ.
DJ Big Jeff as he became to be known, participated in many battles, he won a Smirnoff DJ spin-off competition in New York and came in second place at an International DJ Competition in Aruba. He then went on to do parties at Incarnation Church with a DJ Crew (Music Madness Productions). From there he landed two gigs, one on Thursday night’s at The Fever in the Bronx, and the second at downtown NY hot spot, Club Deco on Sunday nights.
Djing at events led him to begin producing his own mix-tapes. At the time there were very few mix-tape DJs, some of the most popular DJs consisted of Kid Capri, S&S, Ron G and DJ Clue to name a few. The first store that gave Jeff an opportunity to sell his mix-tapes was The Music House located on Dyckman St. in New York’s Washington Heights district.
His career began as a professional DJ as early as 1997, when he was called in to go on tour as Lil Kim’s DJ, doing shows in Philadelphia PA, Jacksonville FL, and Houston TX. He opened up in the Astor Arena, which was his biggest show amongst 50,000 fans. One of his biggest achievements was to DJ at the World Famous Apollo Theatre for the Hip Hop Peace Fest. In 2001, he went on tour with rapper Queen Pen, opening up in Houston TX, Atlanta GA, North And South Carolina. His most memorable show to date has to be the Rap It Up Concert for BET in Washington D.C. He has also DJed at the Hamptons for Urban Latino Magazine parties with the late great DJ Threat.
From there he began to do more events in clubs around New York City’s metropolitan area alongside of some of the best known DJs, such as the late great DJ Danny O, the late great DJ Carl Blaze, DJ Camilo, Ted Smooth, Tony Touch, PF Cuttin’ and DJ Rob-Lo.
Since then he’s kept busy working in some of the hottest clubs in the NYC such as Club Sol, X-Bar, Club Aura, Octagon, 40/40 Club, Strata’s, and Plum to name a few. He’s currently the official DJ for Red Bull’s “Batalla De Los Gallosâ€, where along with Djing he’s provided beats as the soundtrack for this Latin MC contest for the past 3 years, it’s the only MC battle that MC’s have to rap in Spanish over hip-hop beats.
Once again the time has arrived for Jeff to take it to the next level. If he’s not spinning at the clubs he’s hitting the streets with Mix-Tapes! Rest assure DJ Big Jeff is on his grind.
