Proe is a musical personality who engenders everything good about hip-hop—his influences range from Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield, Pete Rock, Rodney Jerkins, J Dilla, and David Axelrod. You never know what to expect, but you are never disappointed. In a cultural landscape full of anthems that diminish the value of the listener, Proe’s sound resonates with positivity without being self-righteous.
A native of East Orange, NJ, Proe is the product of a golden era in hip-hop and soul. With a sound reminiscent of artists like Pete Rock and Marley Marl, Proe’s tracks provide a sonic landscape for the stories of everyday people. At times hopeful and inspiring, at others brooding, each track is imbued with the energy, and edge of the street, the heart of hip-hop culture.
