I spent my sixth birthday in Bakersfield with my mom, who was, at the time, writing a guide book about Southern California. I swam in the Sheraton pool and found a Rescue Rangers stamp in my corn pops. "The Parent Trap" was on TV that night. I decided then and there that when I grew up, I would move to Bakersfield.
