Run! Hide!

About Me

..
It’s only rock’n’roll… or is it? With the mission statement reading “Play hard’n’fast and have a great time doing it” Run! Hide! are rapidly commanding the attention and respect of Sydney’s live music scene with their unrestrained ferocity and unique blend of influences.
Along the way their self-titled and self-released EP made its way into the hands of fans, receiving favourable comparisons to the likes of The Bronx and hailed as re-attaching the balls to the local music scene. Major support slots soon followed including opening for like-minded Canadians, Cancer Bats. Many well-worn stages and spilt drinks later, the band found themselves transforming beyond their original mandate; with a new level of technical ability and live experience it was time to step things up for their second excursion into the recording studio. Enlisting the services of producer/madman Dave Hammer once again, the new Run!Hide! sound has expanded beyond the foundations set on the first EP, to reach for fresh ground in classic songwriting, bolstered by a richer production and bold personality.
“We really wanted to make a rock record, filling out the production a lot more to give each song its own character; to enhance them and create a record that was more dynamic overall,” explains guitarist Rohan Carter. “We switched up guitars/amps/pedals a lot to achieve this as well, taking cues and ideas from bands we look up to but making sure to give it our own twist.” Lyrically, the band’s unrelenting drive is backed up by frontman Cristian Campano’s key theme of personal empowerment: “In a lifelong journey to fulfil your goals and dreams, you should disregard anything that gets in your way,” he positively asserts.
And so forms the Run! Hide! roaring from your speakers with their second EP delivered with the charge and conviction of vintage hardcore. There’s the polar opposite guitar styles – Carter’s fret-burnin‚ southern rock soloin’‚ hard up against James Eastman’s laidback, fuzzed-drenched noodles - that occasionally join for a stadium rattling duel; the intense vocal melodies of Campano aided by Carter’s devilish roar and the authoritative skin-and-stringbelting combo of drummer Michael Zagoridis and bass player Andrew Knox. So is it still rock’n’roll? Most certainly, but for their second self-titled EP Run! Hide! have added what lifts bands out from the pack: more than a few surprises.
“We’re all cool as long as we get to play rock’n’roll our way,” states Carter. “If people dig it, well then it’s a nice little bonus!”
"While most bands these days are too afraid to rock out for fear of their eyeliner running or their perfectly curated hair falling out of place, Run! Hide! once again step up to the plate and give us something decent to listen to. If you want raw passion hunt this one down. 9/10"
