THE MURPHY BROTHERS

"The Murphy Brothers combine tight guitar work and resonant vocals in an album ranging from the fun-loving “New York Girls” to the aptly named instrumental “Bathtub Song” to the traditional Irish song “Raglan Road.” This is an album packed with a range of styles, electric and acoustic work, up-tempo and easy-going tracks, and the slide guitar of “Downtown Blues” all of which evoke the relaxed atmosphere of a summer evening around the barbecue.
The acoustic bluesy feel of the songs “Slow” and “Bayside Blues” compliment nicely the distorted electric guitar of their neighboring songs, “Arizona Girl” and “Miles to Go,” and create a complex texture within the album as a whole. The final song, “Agua Prieta,” with its excellent instrumentation and thoughtful lyrics is a fitting end to this coherent, fun, and well-executed album.
During the opening bars of the song “Miles to Go,” after a particularly tasty drum riff, one of the Murphy Brothers comments, “Oh that was tight, dude.” My thoughts exactly."
