This prescription is too strong.

About Me

In the midst of an existential crisis.

My Interests

My new band CUTE BAND ALERT, my new-found love of karaoke, making a fool of myself (most extraordinarily thru previous interest),coffee dates, British stuff (total anglophile), really big cities, learning guitar, riding my rad bike, being really east coast, dancing my heart out whenever the opportunity arises (and endlessly seeking said opportunities), people who don't pull punches, people who wear prescription glasses, people who feel out of place wearing sunglasses, men in white pants, messy people, blue stuff, cats -- especially a certain white cat named Bowie. I really dig: music, dancing wildly, snobby beer, happy hours, and men in black-rimmed glasses who look like Elvis or Jarvis.

I'd like to meet:

People who don't conform and who honor their inner and outer freak, especially in circumstances where they can hide it. And curvy women who own it and love their bodies. Where are they?? I want to start a one-woman revolution and need a following.

Music:

Elvis Costello, Pulp, Bowie, Shins, Belle & Sebastian, Elliott Smith, Matthew Sweet, Teenage Fanclub, Art Brut, Beck, Old 97s, Saint Etienne, Elastica, Komeda, PJ Harvey, T. Rex, Flaming Lips, Love, The Jam, The Damned, Ted Leo, The Clash, Velvet Crush, Le Tigre, Morrissey, Pat Benatar, The Go-Gos, Fountains of Wayne, Capitol City Dusters, Check Please, Quixotic, Vile Cherubs, Sarah Azzara, Britpop, Powerpop. And of course, BRUCE!

Movies:

Donnie Darko, Jesus' Son, Rushmore, Ghostworld, High Fidelity, High Art, Secretary, Motorcycle Diaries, Trainspotting, movies with cute, tortured, teenage boys. Recent loves are Shortbus (MUST SEE), Waitress, Lars and the Real Girl. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly will change your life.

Television:

I am currently unable to stop watching Flight of the Conchords. It's become a bit of a problem.

Books:

My favorite author is Milan Kundera but I generally prefer nonfiction, preferably with a focus on consumerism, feminism, sociology, or how to get over my inner demons and contribute to society. Also, I love reading mags like Bust, Bitch, The Nation, Adbusters, and Mother Jones.

Heroes:

Betty Dodson. If you don't know who that is, you should.

My Blog

This is how it should be?

As some of you may know, I recently got a new tattoo of a Terence quote "I am human; nothing human is alien to me." This has been speaking to me lately as I am in the grips of yet another existen...

Post-show retrospective

Cute Band Alert's first show happened this past Friday night. I think it was fairly successful. No mess ups, forgotten lyrics, or head dives off of the non-stage. All-in-all: a sweeping success. I hop...

"True wealth is the ability to let go of your possessions."

So what if that quote came from a Yogi tea bag? I love it and it's resonating with me--especially during this season of heightened consumerism and general bullshit.
