Ian Williams / Music for Ijad Dance Company

About Me

Ian Williams is a composer who is best known for his work with Gamine, whose debut album, 'Sabotage', has been acclaimed worldwide. He also spent four years working with Lebanese choreographer Joumana Mourad's dance company, Ijad. During that time he produced music for 'NET', 'CHOSEN LIES', 'DELETE THE BIT' and 'REQUISITIONED' (aka 'PAS DE CINQ').

Founded in London in 1995, Ijad is continually looking to create new dynamic concepts within dance, which moves with the times and where there is no limit between dance, space, film and technology. The choreography draws on the diverse physical expressions of Arabic movement vocabulary, contemporary dance, Japanese Butoh and New Circus to create an innovative language of dance fusion, the aim being to raise the profile of dance culture with the use of multimedia, film and technology.

Ijad have given many performances in the UK and Lebanon over the last few years, and are also actively involved in contemporary dance workshops as a means of spreading the word.

The collaboration between Ian and Ijad resulted in an exciting hybrid of Arabic / classical / techno / ambient music. Two CDs are available from Slaughterback: one comprising two pieces, 'CHOSEN LIES' and 'DELETE THE BIT', the other is the piece, 'REQUISITIONED'.
