We Good - Heat Scalese, Ka$ual & Tarik Nix
----------------------------
HCB, Heffty&C-Brown AkA Heavy Cake in the Building. Two twenty two year old street smart hustlers straight out of the 914, representing Mamaroneck. Slick punch lines, hard hitting hooks, with a laid back type of flow mixed in with a whole lot of cocky swag. We have a new and different type of sound but sticking to the original recipe of good music.Who knows when music started for us individually, most likely since birth and we didn’t even know it. It was elementary school when the two of us first crossed paths and its been destiny ever since. The early to mid 90’s when hip hop was in some what of a golden age with Biggie and bad boy, Pac and Death Row, and Nas and queens bridge. It was a great time to be young and have a curious ear for music.
What started as a group of friends in a freestyle cipher in a basement during middle school lead to two well defined MC’s who came together to form the duo we all know as Heffty&C-Brown. Heffty more of the laid back shy guy happens to be more of the brains of the operation. Looking for new ways to market the campaign and finding new beats if not making them himself. C-Brown is more of the charismatic cocky ladies man kind of character, brings the color and animation to the equation. Together behind the mic no one stands a chance. The chemistry between the two makes them a deadly combination to watch out for. The question wasn’t ever about the talent but now more so what to do with it. With so many people trying to make their way into the music Industry there has to be a way to stick out and be unique and that is a strong suite for these two. Aside from making the street rap songs that they grew up on, they have the ability to be universal with their sound taking it to the club, for the ladies and down south and even out west for a complete versatility.
It was the summer of 8th grade going into high school that things started for HCB. The basement ciphers were fun and all but it wasn’t enough. All it took was sitting in the back of English class passing verses behind the teachers back to prove that it could be written down and formed to make 16’s. The next step was recording, so they whipped up a tape recorder and used the same instrumentals to write and record verses. Although still rough and no concept or choruses the team put together there very first mixtape. Raw lyrics over industry beats… the chemistry between them was impossible to hide. The boys had talent and realized one day with proper support could take them places and it was only a matter of time.
The defining moment which kick started the HCB movement and introduced the skills to a crowd bigger than a couple of friends, was in the high school gym when Heffty was challenge by a fellow student to a battle. The kid didn’t know what he had coming to him. Brown had a day to get everyone he could to see the slaughter that was about to take place. It was set for lunch time and by the time the bell rang there was already a crowd eagerly waiting to see what all the hype was about. The first mistake the challenger made was let Heff go first because the battle was already over before it started. “No contestâ€
The battle left everyone wanting more and aside from the tape they had put together, they had nothing to give people. 4 years and several local performances later the buzz continued to grow as college rolled around. Brown remained local and Heff kept it close enough in Long Island New York. It was there where he would be exposed to all the elements needed to better further the duo’s career and reach the goal they set out for only 4 years back. Teaming up with a classmate named AC, HCB recorded their first freestyle. It was an instant classic! Anyone and everyone who heard it only asked â€Where can I Hear more?†A question we still couldn’t answer just yet.
After a few years of hoping around Heff finally landed back where it all started at, and Brown was close to follow. This time determined to make it happen they returned to where it all started. the base for their first studio was the basement they had used so many times to kick freestyles. It consisted of a computer and a microphone… definitely a step or two up from a tape recorder and a boom box. The first ever beat made by Heffty was a Ron Isley sample which he turned into the teams first anthem for the summer, “ Summer Breezeâ€. It had a refreshing sound and symbolized the teams return to the grind that brought them together in the first place.
Now, 3 years, numerous Tapemasters Inc. mixtape features and a string of other features, HCB finally has an answer for all those who wanna hear more. It started with this myspace page but branched out onto the other internet media servers like Youtube and Soundclick both of which are easy to reach from this page. Our most recent feature on “How That Sound?†signifies the duo’s new found affiliation to Heat Scalese and Up In Smoke connection. There is a lot more to look forward to as the duo continues to grind for new ideas and concepts and stays in the studio with Mykel at Get Open studios in Long Island. As for right now look forward to their debut mixtape entitled “Our Neck of The Woods†the highly anticipated project.- For all the fans we apreciate the love and support you’ve shown us! Keep it coming! we gonna keep hittin’ ya’ll in tha head with that crack ya’ll love. To all the haters keep doing ya job, it’s what keeps us on Top.
