About Me

Robert W. Tucker Jr. was born on April 19, to Rob and Janice Tucker in St. Louis, MO. The youngest out of three children, Robbie remembers fond memories of growing up with two older sisters whom were all but thrilled to have a drummer at home. Robbie began studying music at the age of eleven. He took private lessons at a local music store for drum set and studied classical percussion at school. At age twelve Robbies father gave him his first Buddy Rich CD, and within hours a new follower of jazz movement was recruited. Robbie, now in his twenties, has continued to study and teach both drum set and classical percussion, while exceling in the scene of music playing with some of the best acts in Chicago. Some of his major influences are Chester Thompson, Rodney Holmes, Elvin Jones, Buddy Rich, Max Roach, Roy Haynes, Tony Williams, Jack DeJohnette, Jon Bonham, Carter Beauford, Philly Joe Jones, Jeff Tain Watts , Bill Stewart, Brian Blade, Art Blakey, Peter Erskine, Will Kennedy, Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dennis Chambers , and Paul Motion. His mp3 player is full of jazz greats such as, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Wayne Shorter, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, John Scofield, Bradford Marsalis, Freddie Hubbard, Dave Holland, SKB, MM&W, Brad Mehldau, Pfunk, The Meters, Charlie Hunter Trio, Sonny Rollins, Art Tatum, Soul Live, and Fela Kuti. (The list goes on and on) In his long span of making music Robbie has played with some of the best musicians exploring the musical styles of jazz, funk, groove, pop, rock, reggae, dance/dub, Brazilian and American Latin, afro Cuban, and hard rock. Currently he busy recording and touring with 1st&15th/Atlantic Records artists Matthew Santos, Robbie also is featured and performs with The Aaron Koppel Quartet , and his own ensemble the Robert Tucker Trio. Robbie can be seen playing around Chicago as a local contracted musician and at the local jam sessions, while playing at some of Chicagos biggest venues. Along with playing Robbie is also currently teaching at Allegro Music Center in Park Ridge IL 847-692-6021. Spending most of his time playing, practicing, and spending time with friends, Robbies plan is to continue teaching and living as a professional musician, spreading the message of jazz while living and growing as an artist.
