Lila's Medicine blends rich eklectronic modern production sound with fine masterful live musicianship. In it's formation and live performances, Lila's Medicine quickly built a buzz and began filling clubs because of it's lush tones and energy created by an all-star band of award winning musicians.
Created by vocalist / keyboardist Laura Scarborough with laptop-beat-savant Bill Sarver, this project formed from the idea of music as a medicine - to entice and feed the listener sound flavors and emotion.
The passionate vocal stylings of keyboardist / producer Laura Scarborough helps give Lila's Medicine it's distinctive flavor. You can hear her unique vocal sound move from warm, sultry passages to powerful bends, vibratos, and shrieks. Combined with her use of vocal delays, slicers, and other effects – she creates an intense, distinctive style unto her own.
Her voice atop the modern de-arranged samples, beats, and stacks of texture can remind one of artists like Bjork, Portishead, Goldfrapp, Moloko, Thievery Corporation, and others – where an original female voice mixed in progressive, rich sound has seduced many listeners.
Bill Sarver / Bildeaux has been programming, creating remixes and composing electronic music for the past 16 years. He has recorded and toured with artists from the Swans, Rob Zombie, 16 volt, and Soak, and is bandleader / producer for his band OHN which has been charting college & internet radio stations with their 2nd record "In the End All Things Begin.”
Award winning keyboardist and vocalist Laura Scarborough began her exploration into improvisation and composition while studying classical piano at University of TX at Austin. Since her completing her degree, she has performed solo and in many combos as a bandleader. She released 2 independent records "Chapter One" [review] and the "Project LiVE," has produced multi-media events, composed music for dance companies and short films, and recorded for various DJs and recording artists including Butthole Surfer's Gibby Haynes, Govinda, Rena Jones, and DJ Nick Nack. Her piano and voice work moved her into playing synthesizers and live-laptop. In Summer 2005 and 2006 she was invited to perform month long residencies in Bali, Indonesia, where she performed her unique blend of sultry jazz mixed with original electronic down-tempo blends as a solo one woman show. "She sounds like Nina Simone meets the Boards of Canada," said one fan... In 2006 Laura was also invited to Berlin to perform and collaborate w/ BuNDiNi MUSiC artists including AiR and SEAL drummer Earl Harvin. She's also began incorporating hula-hooping into her live acts with LilA'S MEDiCINE - writing more material based on themes of hoops and circles.
