Oedipus Tex grew up on a steady diet of Carlings Black Label and Gospel Music until he got his first guitar at age 14...then it was Wild Turkey, Johnny Cash and Fast Women. It wasn't long until Tex knew "The Good Lord put me on this earth to bang on these strings and to show them people that music ain't music lessen it kicks 'em in the balls".
With GoatFarmer, Tex's low slung, growling telecaster, and bitterly sarcastic vocal ramblings have done just that. Many a crowd has wandered from the venue humming Goatfarmer tunes while simultaneously shaking their heads and muttering "that boy just ain't right".
Double A or “Dub†as he’s affectionately known in Honky Tonks and Brothels across this great U.S. of A., came to GoatFarmer with fire in his eye and a rumble in his gut. (or was it fire in his gut and a rumble in his eye? Ah well, don’t much matter now, he’s here…) Dub’s formative years were spent as an apprentice organ grinder and monkey wrangler in the hollers of the Blue Ridge Mountains. He quickly found out that there ain’t much call for organ grinders and monkey wranglers in the hills. At the tender age of 10 (sporting a full beard, and a damn fine jericurl), Dub lied about his age and hired on riding shotgun for a mule train set to travel west to the pacific. Upon leaving the beautiful hills of his home, shotgun in hand, Dub noticed all the motorized vehicles, paved roads, and flying machines up in the air, and decided the mule train was a losing proposition just like the organ grinding and monkey wrangling. Dejected, and with $1.20 to his name, he entered the first pawn shop he saw, fully intending to hock the shotgun for a little travelin’ money. As y’all can most likely guess, Dub saw that G&L 4 string hangin’ on the wall and traded off his browning for the bass. The rest is a blur, but the meat of the matter is this…Dub’s now a drivin’ force in GoatFarmer and we’re sure glad to have him in the family.
The Number L We'd love to tell some tale of discovery or evolution about The Number L, but the sheer fact of the matter is he just appeared. O.T. and the boys were in the middle of a session somewhere near Holly Springs Mississippi, when they were confounded by a second guitar line, and the new voice sounding out. Now granted , it was all in the right place, and at the right time, but damn it was unsettling. After a couple hours of this, O.T., Dub and El Guapo decided they had two options...either swear off the whiskey and become encyclopedia salesmen, or accept these new sounds as gifts from the great beyond, and as such, outside the realm of question...they chose the latter. We're still not sure if The Number L is real, or just a manifestation of all them things we all think, but rarely let outta our twisted little heads, but HELL, Folks...it damn sure adds to the sound and the mystique of GoatFarmer!
The Wonder After several years studying mysticism in various far flung corners of the world, The Wonder set out to share that hard earned knowledge with the rest of humankind. About that same time, the ADD, OCD, and RLS kicked in. TW decided rather quickly to channel those brief moments of concentration, the aching drive to group everything into fours, and the constant leg twitch in a more productive or at least less destructive direction. Drumming was the path that was chosen and TW quickly threw in with the boys from GoatFarmer, after sensing immediately that there could not possibly be a more ate up group of individuals on the face of the planet.
