south texas

When I was a kid growing up in Corpus Christi I used to think that the singers and bands that I heard on the radio were playing, at that very moment, in the building downtown that my dad had showed me. He told me the music came from in there. Deep down I probably knew that wasn't right but it was a nice thought to have rolling around in my head.

early
days

I started playing guitar in 1964. Well, not so much playing as trying to press down the strings on the acoustic my parents bought at a stall in Nuevo Laredo. Slowly made my way with chords and songs and finally got a Made in Japan electric and then a Ventura Country Gentleman copy and learned more chords and House of the Rising Sun and wore out 45 singles and looked at pictures of guitar players and made my fingers do what their fingers were doing but not knowing what it was even when it sounded like something.
