The H.I.P. H.O.P. Initiative (HHI) is a student/community based organization out of the University of Massachusetts (Boston). Founded by the beloved Prof. Aminah Fernandes Pilgrim, HHI is on a mission to take Hip Hop back to it's original & positive nature through awareness, conscious lecture, film, open mic shows, events & discussion, etc. Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Revolution of values" speech, this organization believes that a need for a "radical revolution of values" must be practiced in order to put an end to the negative values (materialism, misogyny, violence, and anti-intellectualism) promoted in internationally popular commercial hip hop. We also believe that through change, Hip Hop has the potential to become both the conscious voice for our communities and the primary creative driving force to educate the masses of our youth. Before we can collectively become conscious and positive we must first achieve it individually. So we urge you to start by taking the H.I.P. H.O.P. Initiative challenge:We encourage people to set aside one hour, day or week (whatever is a reasonable sacrifice for the individual) to put down negative Hip Hop as listened to on the radio or consumed in magazines or television (BET, MTV), and instead use that time to listen to "real Hip Hop," read or do some other creative activity! Envolve yourself in the process of change!H.ope I.ntelligence P.urpose
