Save Pitbulls

My Story...
August 15th, 2004 - Just about to head off to bed, Lady (a Frindle pit bull, 45lbs) and Cyrus (a Texas red nosed pit bull, 110lbs) were sleeping on their blankets. As I let out their favourite words, "Wanna go outside!?" they sprung up and headed towards the door. Getting them both on the leash we take off out of my apartment and to the outside door.
It was a beautiful night. As I opened the front door I noticed a Family (2 parents and one child) walking their little shitzu to the left of me. My pit bulls were always very interested in other dogs but never made me worry.
I took a few steps forward and felt a jerk from the side that Lady was on. It appeared that her prong collar had come undone. She took off towards the family who was now about 15 feet away. I followed behind with Cyrus still on the leash, calling her name.
As she approached the family, the child and mother took off towards the side of my building both screaming at the tops of their lungs. I tried to assure them that she was just excited about the dog and to remain calm, which they didn't. As she continued to scream, the man picked up the shitzu to chest height. This only made lady more interested.
I tried to grab lady, but she was way too concerned with the people to pay any attention to me. She started to jump to see the dog that was now being held over top of the mans head. Cyrus was sitting nicely at my side watching what was going on... he couldn't care less.
On her last jumped, the man kicked her in the chest and sent her flying through the air yelping and smashing into the ground. Game Over . I felt a strong pull as Cyrus jumped up and latched onto the mans arm causing him to bleed.
...Wouldn't you fight back if someone kicked your baby sister?
A man came running over and pulled Cyrus off slamming him into the ground.
By this time the woman is screaming in my face in hysterics, everyone is out on their patios swearing at me, and I'm in total shock.
The next day after reading about the 'attack' on the front page of the paper, I come home to animal control at my door forcing me to hand over my dogs, just as my landlord evicted me for the 'vicious attack' the night before.
They kept my dogs in quarantine for 10days and released them to a vet on Aug 25th where I had to put them down.
RIP Babies - I'll never forget you!
I miss these dogs more then one can image. They were amazing, and nothing but sweethearts. One bad situation and their lives are over. They were famous for their hugs and cuddles. Lady loved to go out rollerblading with me, and going for walks. Cyrus loved playing fetch and hanging from his rope up in the tree. I have never had dogs as loyal as these. I miss you's!
