A word from Dr. Skeletors' spokesman... width="425" height="350" ..
Dr. Skeletor, PhD started Deejaying around 93/94. Although always into Hip-Hop, he was influenced by the Jungle scene at the time and some of the DJs he used to go clubbing with and was originally gonna be a Jungle DJ. By chance, he ended up at the same college with old childhood friend Markie da Stormtroopa he fell into being a Hip Hop DJ.He describes his style as a mix from his favourite DJ's, especially DJ Hype and DJ Sy, scratching in all the right places and a set that takes you on mad highs and lows throughout. Skeley's other DJ inspiration comes from listening to Funkmaster Flex's 60 minutes of funk mix tapes."I try to make my DJ sets and mix tapes with those two styles in mind, basically a live mix tape where the music takes you through different moods. Whether mix tape or live st, you should be able to go buckwild to it in a club, bump it in your car or chill out with it at home."He describes himself as an old school DJ because he has an old school approach to it."It don't matter how big you are in the game, a big part of a DJ's job is to dig in the crates and find those gems. Even if bare heads are sending you their music, most of it might be shit but in amongst it you might find a classic. I don't want to go into a club and just play the popular shit, that's what every other DJ does. I want other DJ's and heads to say "that joint was sick, what is it?" then I know i'm doing my job right."Although his sets are a mix of old and new, he does however, admit to being shamelessly stuck in the past."Early 90s mainly cos thats when the spirit of Hip Hop was at its best. The beats were always on some neck snapping shit and whether it was East Coast or West Coast and whatever they were rapping about, MCs would always bless the mic with skills."Around 97, Markie told Skeley about a local MC known at the time as Obi-One who would eventually be known as Kashmere the Iguanaman. The two met by chance and the three were soon together making one of Skkeley's now famous mix tapes."As soon as he got on the mic I was blown away and knew this guy can get somewhere."They quickley got serious about making beats, doing live shows and eventually founded the Receptor Records Empire."I love doing P.A's, theyre always fun and go down well so I focus on doing those now, usually with a DJ set combined."As for the future, look out for new Receptor Records Mix Tapes, more P.As with Kashmere so watch this space cos theres gonna be some interesting new, new shit that you aint ever heard DJs do.For booking Dr. Skeletor, PhD and/or Kashmere, contact: Big Mac on 07958-998-265
