Just ask if you want to know something. I am not all about the post and tell... But if you really want to know what I am up to, check out my website at www.artyangelrose.comArtist Statement:Painting is my way of expressing my voice to others and letting them know how and what I feel. There is something liberating about pushing the paint around on a canvas with a paintbrush. I have 3 favorite paintbrushes that I use on all my paintings -my large paintbrush to cover the background and two others which are small and precise. Someone watching me paint might wonder why I don’t move to a larger brush when I am working on a large-scale canvas, but the answer is easy, I have found the tools that I am comfortable working with and I know what to expect from them. Brushes are a funny thing. They are like people and have personalities of their own. I have even given names my brushes. Big Betty is my large brush. Fred is my middle size brush. I tend to use this brush more than the other two and Tipsy is the little size 0 brush I use to finish off all of my edges.I put a lot of myself into my paintings. I search for the perfect mood or feeling and think about how it will be seen. After I find that perfect mood, there are two key factors that I put into my paintings. The two factors are color and ornamental calligraphy that has some type of flower, feather or other representational meaning to it.The color is the easier of the two defining points. The color represents the feeling that is being portrayed. I like to find the colors that match that mood. Names of the colors play a big part in that. An example would be crimson red. When I think of crimson red I think of blushing red cheeks from embarrassment. That color would be used in a painting expressing the feeling of embarrassment.Once the foundation for the painting is laid out I find some ornamental calligraphy to tie it all together. In my Lovers painting I used the peacock feather. This feather represents the all seeing eye of Hera. It also means Lovers. These little links to the feelings help the viewer to read more into what I have painted. My paintings are done in abstract so as not to focus on the person I am painting, but to create a generic person for the viewer to relate to. The reason I make the subjects look generic is because I want the viewer to connect with the work and find the painting that fits them. If the viewer finds one painting that connects with feelings that they have had in the past or are having now, then I have accomplished my goal.Copyright © 2008 AngelRose
