DISCOPIA
is a webzine/radio show/occasional party/publishing company.
Established in 2001 by Niall O'Conghaile, DISCOPIA originally appeared as a printed fanzine circulated in the record shops of Glasgow, but at the start of 2005, with the help of Scottish Prince's Trust, made the leap to the far more suitable format of an internet periodical. With the intent of a more serious appraisal of the sadly disregarded genre of Disco, coupled with the desire to spread the word about new, up-and-coming Disco artists (from every genre, be it soul, house or even rock), Discopia has featured interviews with some of the biggest names in Disco. Since 2002 Niall has also been hosting a weekly, disco-based show on Glasgow's premier internet station Radio Magnetic, which became rebranded THE DISCOPIA SHOW . Past guests have included Greg Wilson, Daniel Wang, David Mancuso, Morgan Geist, Maurice Fulton, DJ Cosmo and many more, not to mention the ever expanding crew of the zine, including James Pole, Andrew Back, Peter McClusky, and the cream of the crop of Glasgow's disco, soul and house DJs including Billy Woods (Melange-A-Go-Go), Gerard (Tangent) and Stuart Hardie (Vinyl Freaks) - to check it out, simply follow the links in the "Sounds Like" Section below! Niall has started to gain recognition for his impressive DJing skills, culminating in Discopia being given free reign to hijack one of Glasgow's biggest and best events DEATH DISCO for it's birthday party this February, as well as a regular residency with Andrew Back as ONE IN TEN . You can check out Niall's productions as Trippy Disco here , and above are a selection of his disco-style re-edits for your listening pleasure.
