Born on May 16th, in the small town of Port Arthur,Texas and raised in the Seattle/Tacoma area; since the age of 7; Jennifer has been a star in the making. In 1996, while show casing wherever she could, she landed a role in the hit Gospel play, "A Good Man Is Hard To Find". After a year of traveling with the play Jennifer realized she had been blessed with not just a singing talent, but acting as well. In late 1998, she moved to Hollywood and landed a few background roles on UPN's Moesha, The Little Richard Story, HBO's Dancing In September, and City of Angels, just to name a few. After a year in Hollywood, Jennifer returned to her current place of residence in Alpharetta. "California was truly a learning experience, and it helped to draw me closer to God", says Jennifer. "I found that music was my first love, and that God had always been on my side. I also gained alot of respect for struggling artists".
Once back in Atlanta, Jennifer teamed up with Dwight 'Lil Scrapp' Reynolds of Ground Breaking Music Publishing. The result of this collaboration was the future hits: "You Should've Kept Me To Yo' Self" and "Gonna Take More". These pop creations give listeners a chance to hear the sultry singers vocal range and diversity. "Working with Dwight was amazing", says Jennifer. "And when I walked into the studio, we just clicked! The lyrics to his songs were exactly what I had always wanted to say. God has an incredible sense of humor, and people meet for a reason". Jennifer also collaborated with producer Tyrone Maximus for the hot mid-tempo track, "While The Cat's Away". It was here where Jennifer realized she had been blessed with yet another talent: Songwriting. After she penned this song, she continued to write poetry whenever she felt led by the spirit. Her next song was with producer David Waehner from Buckhead, where they delivered a 4th future hit called "It's Like That". On this track Jennifer had a chance to test more of her range and diversity, and the end result was beautiful. The voice of Jennifer Tom embraces the senses, often touching the very heart of timeless soul. Her latest writing creation is a poetry book called "The Second Chances Collection of Poems." The book was published in September 2005 by Authorhouse Publishing.'Second Chances Poetry will inspire you with laugh-out-loud humor! This book was inspired by the romances of the 16th century King and Queens. They often spoke with an English accent, so I recommend the reader use the same accent to get the full effect of the passion behind the words.' You will find poetic views on Women, Men, Love, War, Prayers, and Music. Second Chances is a very inspiring mixed drink with a bit of sarcasm, and a splash of wit!'
Wanting to learn more about the business, Jennifer went behind the scenes, and worked at booking agencies, took on administrative assistant jobs, and was a student at DeVRY, majoring in Business Information Systems. When Jennifer performs, she commands the stage, and captivates her audience with powerful vocals, and confidence in stage presence. Not only is she professional, but she is also very focused with a very strong work ethic, and has a strong belief in God. She wants to make a lasting impression on the music industry, and represent African-American Women in a positive light.
With a commitment to give back, Jennifer has been a prominent and tireless supporter of the philanthropic community. She has lent her musical skills to many charitable foundations and organizations such as : Atlanta Job Corps, Supreem Esteem, Inc and The Dove Foundation, Inc. In May of 2001 she started a non-profit organization called (D.O.V.e.)Definition of Virtue. This powerful group inspires young girls to be Proverbs 31 women. They have a Scholarship Fund, and they cater to exotic dancers, and young girls who have been led astray in Metropolitan Atlanta. They help them in the transition of their current lifestyles, and teach them how to use their talents in more productive ways in the community.
In fact Jennifer has donated her time and talent volunteering, working with the Hosea Williams Foundation for feeding the hungry and homeless, and with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. She also teams with the Profetik Modeling Agency, putting together Music and Modeling Bootcamps for aspiring artists. "Being an artist is about letting God use you as a vessel to inspire", says Jennifer. "And I feel that I have been chosen for this mission."
