About Me

Exuding with their great New Orleans heritage, the five piece metal/rock band Through What Was has powered its way to the pinnacle of the highly competitive local band scene. Their musical genius explodes with a finely tuned precision that blends the band’s altruistic arrangements and cerebral melodies with an underlying element of hardcore in your face metal that will blow your mind. ThroughWhatWas has been on the assembly line for almost an eternity__ “hence the name.” But, now the pieces have fallen into place and the riddle to their musical puzzle has finally been solved. Thus, after six years of soul searching and collaboration, the bands three core members Matt Solares, Cory Cheramie, and Ross Donewar, have incorporated the remaining essential ingredients needed to complete their band’s metamorphosis. Enter Daniel Merry and Tony Mastascuso! Daniel’s thrilling lead vocals and resounding growls are powerful enough to command a pride of lions to scurry back to the safe allure of their lair. Tony’s reverberating bass licks and creative ideas have helped jar the band free from their indecisive slumber. Through What Was’ songs are re-contextualized information, personal and passionate, ranging their songs from memorable athems to ever pounding hits, with lyrics that feature vivid imagery and inventive wordplay. Through What Was follows a highly creative and innovative techniq
“Throughwhatwas define what a young band should be: talented, hard-working, and determined to rise to the top of their chosen profession.” –Jay Branch, The High Ground Owner; New Orleans, LA (www.thehighgroundvenue.com)
"ThroughWhatWas is a very promising young band with a sick vocalist and catchy guitar work." -JB from August Burns Red
“Throughwhatwas define what a young band should be: talented, hard-working, and determined to rise to the top of their chosen profession." -Keith from Ligiea
"So after sitting through generic emo bands, I was hoping that TWW would be a bit different. They were to an extent. Their sound is a bit more brutal (this set them apart from the other bands that night) than bands of that genre and it seems to borrow from the newer school of metalcore i.e., Into The Moat, Between the Buried and Me, etc....
They also boast a very energetic and manic vocalist whose antics fit the music extremely well. The vocals range from screaming to singing like many metalcore bands and there's also the At The Gates- style riffing that is very prevalent w/ metalcore bands these days but it's thankfully not overdone.
In short, they put on an excellent show and if this is your thing, go check them out because it'd definitely be worth your time and money."
