Oklahoma Songwriters Circle

About Me

The Oklahoma Songwriters Circle was born in June 2004 when a few songwriters started getting together once a month to share their latest songs and chat over coffee. We told two friends and they told two friends and so on and so on and so on . . . . We exist to support songwriters and to motivate each other to write. We give and receive constructive feedback and creative inspiration and offer opportunities for networking and collaboration.
Songwriters of all genres, ages, and experience are invited to join us for coffee and song swapping at our monthly, informal get-together. We meet the third Thursday of every month, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Red Cup Cofee House (3122 North Classen Boulevard) in Oklahoma City. Bring your acoustic guitar, your songs, and support for your fellow songwriters. Our intention is to have some fun, make some music, and leave inspired! This isn't a performance or an open mic, but listeners are welcome and encouraged!

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: www.myspace.com/oklahomasongwriterscircle
Band Members: Although we have a group of core "members" without whom we would not exist, we are not a formal organization. We do not charge membership fees or have bylaws, or elect officers. We do keep songwriters informed about our events through myspace, email reminders, etc. Most importantly, we are not a "clique". We exist to support songwriters of all genres, ages, and experience . . . and to celebrate the craft of songwriting.
Contact Shelly Phelps at [email protected] if you want to know more!
Influences: We are rock, and blues, and pop, and country, and jazz, and folk, and soul, and gospel, and various amalgamations of all these styles and more. We are inspired by many different artists from past and present . . . including each other.

Sounds Like: Oh sure, we've got your pre-requisite singer/songwriter songs 'bout love, heartbreak, protest, and trains of course. But we also got songs about railroad ghosts, ugly people, Romeo Dellaire, imaginary cafes, Goethe quotes . . . and pretty much anything we ever wanted to say to anyone we ever loved or loathed . . . and anything we ever experienced, heard about, read about, dreamed of, or pulled out of thin air.
We're songwriters and yeah, we got somethin' to say.
