Nyssa Bradsworth

About Me

Singer/Songwriter Nyssa Bradsworth has been on stage for over 10 years, performing with style and prowess, and with a breathtaking voice, and brilliant songwriting, Nyssa is captivating audiences everywhere. Nyssa has had an amazing few years, with the release of her EP 'Hurricane' in '07, and playing Falls Festival, Queenscliff Music Festival and with the great Tim Freedman in '08, Nyssa Bradsworth is an artist not to be missed.
Channeling the likes of Ani DiFranco, John Mayer, and Sarah Blasko, Nyssa’s dynamic performance has people raving. Admirable musically and lyrically, Nyssa performs with style and prowess, captivating audiences all over the country.
Nyssa has won many song writing and performing awards over the years, having performed at Festival Hall, The Espy, Manchester Lane, The Evelyn, headlining The Northcote Social Club, and recently playing Falls Festival and Queenscliff Music Festival, Nyssa has the passion and determination to do great things.
"Music has always been in my blood. When I was still in nappies, I was listening to Sting, The Beatles, Dire Straits, Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. As I have grown, my passion has grown."
"This new record is a journey. I wanted the listener to relate to the music, and ride with me. Each person will have their own take on the music, and it will mean something completely different to the next person. I love that about music."
Nyssa has supported some great musicians over her career so far, such as Eric Bogle, Rod Quantock, Sally Dastey, The Dilli All-Stars, former Superjesus front woman Sarah McLeod, Mahalia Barnes, Kutcha Edwards, Jess McAvoy, Simon Philips and Nicholas Roy and has won numerous Kool Skools awards for Best Female Vocalist and Best Acoustic Song (1999 and 2000).
In 2003, Nyssa relocated to Melbourne, where she completed a Diploma of Music at Box Hill College of Music, and it was there that she met the core of her band, Natalie Bartsch, Dave Evans and Andrew Rousch, who, 4 years later, she is still creating with. In 2006, Nyssa met guitarist Nick Brown, and new her band was at full capacity.
Since mid 2006, Nyssa and her band have been flat out, gaining a strong backing. Launching her record 'Hurricane' to a sell-out night (Oct. ’07), and an amazing headline show at the Northcote Social club to great reviews, Nyssa Bradsworth is a name you should all be watching……

Beat Magazine NSC Review- Issue 21st June 2008
"I'd never heard of Nyssa Bradsworth before I saw her at the NSC last Thursday night. It was a typical Melbourne winters night and to be honest, I was wondering why I had travelled half way across the city on public transport to watch someone i knew nothing about. The mood inside the NSC could not have been anymore different than the cold and dreariness outside. Nyssa won me over from the very first note, her band, the Weightless String Quartet, underscoring what has to be one of the most confident performances I've seen in a long while.
The combination of classic quartet and soft folk made for a highly atmospheric set, which had the modest audience transfixed in enjoyment. Everyone was so quiet Nyssa asked happily a couple of times how people were doing. Nyssa kept to her own pace, slow and steady, which is a rare find in this pop driven hit machine music scene. I must admit I was waiting for her to let her hair down and rick out, but I think I'm projecting.
Coming from a guy who grew up on a diet of Alice in Chains and Sonic Youth, it's still nice to go watch musicians who put melody and lyrics first. I'm sick of going to live rock gigs and listening to a bunch of wannabes not play their instruments properly. Far too often bands mistake noise for music. Even the most hardcore Death Metal fan will tell you that grinding a power chord while your mate pounds the double kick pedal doesn't necessarily mean it's music. My point is that it was great to see musicians last Thursday executing their talent and skill in the difficult live forum.
If you're one of those people who are dead inside and like listening to young girls sing about their feelings then maybe you wouldn't like Nyssa. For everyone else, I'm hard pressed to say anything other than it was a delight to spend and evening in her company. I can tell you this much - if you take a punt on Nyssa Bradsworth next time you see her name billed at a venue, you wont be disappointed." - ADAM MCKENZIE
