I am Ali Abu-Talib Ibn AbdunNur. Some folks call me Shaykh Ali. Some folks call me BabaAli. And some folks call me just plain Ali, and though I don't box my rap is still pretty. AlHamdul-Lillah! I'm a 59 year old African American, who converted to Islam in January of 1970. I've sat for many years with some of the world's most outstanding Muslim scholars of both sects, including Imam Mubarrak Hasan, Sayyid Masoom Abidi, Ayatollah Murtadah Qazwinii and I'm recognized by my former teachers as a serious student and an accomplished and respected teacher, writer, and elder (Shaykh).My writings include The Curtain Of Light, a short book on the importance of prioritizing the establishment of Salat in Jamat in Mumin Communities based in The West; "The Holy Lecture," a rhymed refraction (poetic interpretation and translation) of the last juz of The Quran, and a rhymed epic poem which is a dramatic yet complete and accurate history of the events that led up to the martyrdom of Prophet's Grandson entitled The Murder Of Imam Husayn. This work was presented in the form of a four and a half hour talking book. It is presently unavailable for sale but can be downloaded for free at my .mac account at:idisk.mac.com/abutalib-Public?I am currently working on a rhymed history of Prophet Muhammad’s biography called “The Final Prophet.”With God's grace and mercy, I've written very many poems and essays, on Islamic subjects distributed to Mumin all over the world on my E-zine called “GrassRoots Dirt.” I've presently producing several CD’s of Poetry. Two of them, “Choices,” and “The Fear of The Dark” are in post production. Two more, “The White Man’s God Complex Revisited, and “Responsibility,” are in pre-preproduction.I have two sons, a step son, a ward, and two grand daughters. I'm a 19 year resident of San Diego California, and a native of Buffalo, New York. I am also the Co-founder/Organizer of Jamatul Muqeemoonas Salat, GrassRoots Calling, and The QINA (Quranic Institute Of North America) Projects.
