About Me

Ally Anna is my baby girl and my pride and joy along with her mom, my beautiful wife Rhonda. Guitarist, Vocalist, Songwriter and Producer Jeffry Alan “Miles Brown” McLean started playing guitar at the age of five. Both his mom and dad's families were musical and played instruments, so he grew up singing harmonies in all the family sing-along events, at breakfast, lunch, dinner, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, July 4th, etc... He and his first 3 piece band with 2 guitars and a drummer, (no Bass so he played heavy rhythm), won a talent contest in 1972. He was in seventh grade. Growing up in the mid seventies, he spent relentless hours studying and rehearsing Gino Vanelli, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Player, Ray Parker Jr., Pink Floyd, Brand X, Toto, Bill Bruford, Jan Ackerman, The Tubes, Dixie Dregs, Parliament Funkadelic, the Commodores, Jimmy Castor Bunch, Steely Dan and many other eclectic bands of the time. A self taught guitarist, vocalist until winning a full scholarship for classical guitar in 1980, he studied at UNC Wilmington with Professor Sam Dorsey, a master student of Andre' Segovia. Moving to Charlotte in 1981 Jeff played a short stint with the youth group at PTL. After graduating with Honors in 1986, from the Music Business Institute in Atlanta, Ga, he returned to Wilmington and joined an original band called Interface and played with them until joining forces with Hot City, a touring band in 1987. He went on the road with the band and began entertaining audiences in 15 states. He toured with various top 40 groups for approximately 5 years from 1987 to 1992 working with East Coast Entertainment, SRO Productions, National Artists, Hit Attractions, Ted Scoreman, The Arnold Agency, and many other booking agencies. He has played with various acts that have opened for several National and regional recording artists such as The Producers, Nantucket and Vesta Williams and one of the highpoints in his career has been opening up for James Brown at Trask Coliseum in 1987, with Interface. He has written many great songs and has shopped material with Kenny Baby Face Edmonds, EMI, ASCAP, BMI, Patrick Joseph music to name a few. Jeffry Miles moved to Greensboro in 1989. He and former band mates, Joe Frazier and Kenny Mallette won 2nd place in the Power 97, WQMG songwriting contest with their group “The Ticket”. Since then he partnered with Sg Kearney, former tracking engineer of Keva studios in Memphis, FOH sound engineer for the likes of Bonnie Raitt and Little Feat, and monitor engineer for Chick Corea’s electric band, (co-owner of A & M Sound Production, a mobile stage and sound production company). Together they built a small digital recording studio called GOWITHIT Publishing Company, (GWI) an ASCAP publisher and produced several projects including the critically acclaimed Jazz CD, “No Words” by Jazz Pianist Bob Sanger and his Trio, and a 13 local band compilation Christmas Blues CD called “Cool Yule”, which netted about $8,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Jeff has produced several local demos including the recent demo of the songs of Jeremy Brady, which can be heard at www.myspace.com/themarvelousmacbrady, recent guitarist of American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry. Jeff performs regularly, playing guitar and singing with the Knights of Soul of Greensboro, NC since 1995, featuring Ms. Jackie D, (Fantasia Barrino’s Aunt), and Jeff’s long time friend and funk bass player Theron “T-bone” Thomas. Jeff spent a 9 month tour of duty as staff guitarist at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Greensboro, under the musical direction of phenomenal keyboardist, Andre’ Brinson and the esteemed and prolific leadership of Bishop George W. Brooks. He played the latest in powerful new Gospel sounds and has been blessed with talent that keeps him in high demand. He is also playing with a pet project called Signature Soundz, a Nu-Jazz, Funky R&B, Rocking, Gospel influenced project including keyboard player Derrick Christopher, (band mate from the Knights of Soul), Bass Player and band manager, Larry Graves, former staff bass player from Mt. Zion, currently also performing with Todd Carey and Focus, and last but not least, Maurice David Baxter, young drummer prodigy and former staff drummer at Mt. Zion. Jeff sings sweet, driving, jazzy melodies through his guitar and raps and sings funky, jazzy tunes with his renditions of songs ranging from Kiss by Prince to Find Your Way by Kem and Shining Star by EWF, Word UP by Cameo, Why Georgia by John Mayer or some of Signatures fresh original songs. Don’t miss the chance to be enthralled by the artistry and groove of Jeffry Miles.
