Anyone who has met Rob Harris can tell you that he has probably the most unbridled passion for music. With todays dance music, modern house music in particular, there is a noticeable spark in his eye that tells you there is a lot going on inside of his head that just wants to be shared with everyone. As a DJ, of course, he is able to tell his own story through his DJ sets. Albeit for many, that proverbial journey would only happen during a night out at the club. For his family and close friends, its understood that his dedication and passion to his art is definitely in his soul. Those perfect moments when the club goers connect to the music he plays are what he enjoys the most. The very moment when every one in the room simply gets it at the most spiritual level is definitely the most satisfying for him.
Like many of todays DJs, Rob initially picked up his mixing skills making home mixes entirely on his laptop. He eventually started pressing home burned cds of these mixes for his friends. One of which made its way to DJ Julian Marsh who happened to be playing one summer in Provincetown, MA. The pair met in person shortly thereafter and Julian urged Rob to invest in actual DJ equipment to learn the art on a more personal and physical level. There was obvious potential in store and Rob quickly learned his craft. With his proverbial two turntables and a microphone erm mixing board, he was off and running. For several months he honed his skills at home and playing at house parties for friends. The turning point for it all was in 2001 when Rob made his professional debut playing a benefit for the city of Washington, DC. This eventually led to residencies in some of DCs hottest nightclubs such as Cobalt and Apex. In the few shorts years Rob has been spinning live, he has quickly become one of DCs favorite DJs. Voted so for 3 consecutive years running by readers of THE WASHINGTON BLADE, there is no doubt that this former military boy will be a big contender on more Best of lists in the years to come.
Rob is proud to boast Washington, DC as his current home. For this Chicago native, he wants to make sure that DC gets its props for having such a rich club music scene. With his own special style of *Twisted House* he combines elements of tribal beats, diva anthems and classics with a smidge and a nod to disco altogether almost seamlessly. Mash-ups come to mind when trying to bridge different songs and styles of music together. Rob has produced some exclusive mixes of his own as well as throwing in a live one here and there as he plays to his ever growing fan base. This is all just the start of many more stories and journeys in Robs life. Many fans and critics alike say that you have to move to New York or Los Angeles to make it big so to speak. DJ Rob Harris is out to prove them all wrong!
