Hi. My name is Matt and I play the cello...

About Me

That I have a page here at all comes as a real surprise to me. In fact the idea would never have occured to me if not at the urging of a Voltaire fan (you know who you are ;)). So, here we are. From time to time I'll be posting events of concerts/ shows that I'm playing, music I really like, and the occasional comment on things that really piss me off –– and since this is a work in progress, changes will be incremental, so please bear with me. But my primary aim here is to meet all of you (Fans? What the hell am I doing with FANS???), get to know you and find what makes you tick. I'm looking forward to that most of all.Cheers,m.

My Interests

I love to cook and a appreciate a good meal.

I'd like to meet:

All of you face to face.

Music:

Duke Ellington said it best: "If it sounds good, it is good". There's so much to listen to I don't know where to start. Any suggestions?

Movies:

Haven't seen a movie since…

Television:

Top Chef, Project Runway, Iron Chef (especially the original), Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the new Battle Star Galactica…

Books:

Rarely get time to read these days. Currently working on "Team of Rivals" which is about Abraham Lincoln's politcal cabinet. Barbara Tuchman's "A Distant Mirror" also bears special mention, as do "Lord of the Rings", "Gödel, Escher, Bach" … there are more, but I'm blanking on the titles.

Heroes:

This is probably obvious, but the first that come to mind are cellists: Mstislav Rostropovitch, Pierre Fournier and Anner Bylsma.

I may be spending too many idle hours on myspace, but I'm simply blown away by the wild, intense creativity going on here. I can't keep up. Suspicions that I'm useless and boring are creeping in
