About Me

Myspace Layouts
I play the harmonica and sing and write (when not blocked or in a self absorbed state). I’ve done so for many a year. I have been fortunate to have traveled extensively because of this 10 hole diatonic instrument. I was born in the Motor-city Detroit. I received my first harmonica at age 8 from my grandma. She brought it back from Hawaii where they lived for a while. I learned my first Beatles song, "Love Me Do" shortly there after. Joined my first band in 1972 (Ernie and the Neighborhood Gang) while in high school. My cousin Kevin said "If you're going to be a lead singer of a rock band you need to blow that harp once in a while." So I took his advice. That same year my friend Randy Nelson and I hitch-hiked to FLA for spring break and we took our harps with us...(drove everyone nuts with our one Beatles song!) From that point on I have always kept a harp in my pocket. I've since lived and worked in Texas, California and Tennessee. Thirty years and a lot of notes have been played since. Several years ago (1977) I was working on a merchant drill ship that started drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and ended up in the Santa Barbara channel. One of my shipmates heard me practicing my harmonica deep below in one of the catacombs of this hallowed rig. He asked if I had heard this harmonica player who accompanied Jimmy Buffet. I said maybe on the radio, but I didn't own any of his records. He gave me "Son of a Sailor" (how appropriate!) and the rest is history. Fast forward 20 years and low and behold I have become friends and have played with the harpoon man himself. Currently, I live in Knoxville, TN where I am in a blues duo called The Detroitdaddies. The other half of the duo sometimes known as TALLDADDY is my brother from another mother Tall Paul. My first Trop-Rock event was Knoxville's Tropic Festival (where I met Fingers) in 1997 with St. Somewhere, A1A and Greg Bridgewater. My first time in Key West was 1998 at MOTM with St. Somewhere, then again in '99. Did a stint on the road with St. Somewhere 1998-2001 playing Vermont, New Orleans, St. Louis, Galveston, Orlando, (Margaritaville's grand opening with Buffet, Club Trini and Fingers), Minn/St. Paul, NY, Boston & Philly. I've played, to name a few, Riddles in the Sand, Riddles in the Snow, MargaRaleighville, Stars on the Water, Stars Fell on Alabama, Pirate and Parrotpalooza's, and of course one of my fave's, the Mid-Winter Meltdown in Manassas. Had a great time everywhere we went. Recently, Tall Paul and I have been playing lots of Trop-Rock events around the country, including MOTM the past 3 years... in 2009 we are scheduled to play The Mid-Winter Meltdown, Atlanta's Parrothead Cruise and Flipperstock in St Louis. I am also joining forces with John Frinzi for the Hope Rocks the Beach in Fort Myers and the Sunny Jim Jam pre-MOTM party. I have a live album with Tall Paul called "Chalk It Up." I am also working on a new Detroitdaddies record.Peace, mc
