"ITS ABOUT TO BE A COLD SUMMER AND A HOT WINTER"

About Me

There are few chameleons in Detroit. A city with a population which is 86% Black, it is largely a place where what you see is what you get. However, within the Detroit music community there are a select few artists who are blend in well with any crowd. Those who can kick it with a rock band, get down with the roughest street crews, and vibe with hip hop purists; Marquise Porter is one of these artists.Marquise is one of Detroit’s more prolific emcees with a lyrical flow that is both reflective and imaginative. Known for his songs that touch on significant topics, Marquise Porter refuses to rap about nothing at all.He first hit the national music scene after being signed by Lisa “Left Eye”” Lopes of TLC fame. He and Lisa immediately clicked and he began recording and meeting with executives, he even traveled with her to Honduras, her home away from home where she eventually lost her life. “When she died I was crushed, I had just seen her three weeks prior and we were putting business ideas together.”After suffering the loss of his business mentor and friend as well as his recording contract, it was back to the drawing board for Porter. He kept making music as well as hustling to make ends meet. He reconnected with friend, Frankie Glass and together they founded Mobb North Records, a successful Detroit-based record company with Marquise Porter as the flagship artist.Putting out good music and just being himself is the secret to Marquise’s independent success. His captivating videos are featured on local and national video outlets. His newest video for the heart-wrenching single, “We Almost Lost Detroit” is one of his best yet. The song which tells the sad tale of the loss of several Detroit rap artists and how the city has suffered with an economic depression that has made it the poorest major city in America, even behind a post-Katrina, New Orleans.Walking with a pimp’s limp after being shot in the leg during a robbery, Marquise Porter is covered with tattoos yet has an impish smile. He is the epitome of why one shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, while he is enjoying a growing rap career, he is looking forward to one day obtaining a certificate in culinary arts and owning a fish restaurant. Meanwhile, he continues to feed the streets real hip hop music. His new album, his third studio project, Soldier to a Boss is getting critical acclaim for its insight, lyrical content, and production by Mobb North in house producer, Saint Denson, who produced the classic, ““Get High” for Styles P., and others.Marquise Porter is a rapper with great expectations that comes from great experiences, “I don’t try to emulate anybody, but I listen to the greats. That is what I set myself to be in competition against.”
