I don't read a lot. But I do enjoy the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter books. As far as authors go: Tolkien, Thomas Harris, John Steinbeck... currently reading "Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs" by Chuck Klosterman, a kick ass book.
