Reading, baking, hanging out with my friends and family (when my crazy work/grad school/ decorating schedule permits!), my 3 kitties Peanut Butter, Fluff and Honey, local theater, and retail therapy (I LOVE anything from Tiffany's, Coach, and Hermes and i also have this strange perfume obsession that needs constant attention).What else do I like? Let's see:
writing with purple pens;
talking, but also listening, to people;
hanging out in a bookstore and discovering a book that I never thought would interest me;
driving with the windows down, the radio cranked up, singing at the top of my lungs;
trying out a new recipe;
helping people at work, especially the people who are not always the nicest;
Tim Horton's iced cappuccinos;
having somebody blow dry my hair;
hanging out by water, especially if it is running water like a waterfall (Glen Park, anyone?);
Sunday mornings with the newspaper, a cup of coffee, my pj's, on the couch;
Halloween;
a fresh tube of Lancome Platinum lipstick - still my best color after 8 years!;
smiling;
looking at photographs;
the SPCA;
birthdays, especially other peoples' birthdays;
sending cards to my friends for no reason (yes, I should own stock in Hallmark by now!);
bangle bracelets;
shopping at Everything Elmwood;
a day at the beach;
old houses;
driving fast;
finding my way around new places; vintage French poster art;
dining at Fiddlehead's;
toasting marshmallows;
taking long lunches;
hard work that motivates me towards goals;
guys who listen to what I have to say;
"mental health" days from work;
Elmwood Avenue between Breckenridge and Auburn;
Georgia O'Keefe artwork (but really only her floral paintings);
checking the mailbox (and no, I don't mean e-mail! I get enough of that at work!);
weekends with no homework;
the possibility of romance;
dining al fresco;
watching my cats play together;
interesting lamps - my favorite home accessory!;
dessert;
local history;
traveling abroad - oh, how I wish I could do more of it!;
learning;
getting over the bad stuff in my life - let's leave the past in the past!;
a vase of fresh flowers on my kitchen table;
scratch-off lotery tickets - hey, you never know!;
word or number puzzles that make me think;
Pictionary;
the instant when the house lights dim, just before the curtain rises and the show begins - so full of excitement and possibilities;
having a good cry with a friend when the day gets tough;
finding a great new wine;
dinners out by myself with a great book and a glass of wine;
picnics in the park;
walks through my neighborhood just to look at the great old houses;
cars;
making stuff - I love arts and crafts!;
glittery or sequined things;
drive-ins;
Shakespeare in the Park;
classic-looking clothes that don't go out of style;
staying up late;
my apartment;
having a few great friends rather than tons of so-so acquaintances;
truthful people;
bed and breakfasts;
autumn, the smell of freshly fallen leaves, and picking out pumpkins and apple cider;
finding the perfect gift for someone;
long drives to no place in particular;
cleaning my apartment with the radio cranked up;
making lists;
crossing things off my lists!;
renting movies;
a great purse;
Cosmopolitans with a dash of sour mix;
growing up even if it means getting older.
umm, i'd really prefer to not get all buddy-buddy with random strangers...i have enough real friends, thank you very much. (shut up mike and aj...i have more than just the two of you as friends, i swear!!!). and let's remember that this is not match.com...guys, if you are a stranger and you think i'm interesting, intelligent, beautiful blah blah blah, keep in mind that i don't like weird wishy-washy guys with deep thoughts who write sappy love poetry and are just searching for their "soul-mate." i prefer things to be a bit more rough-around-the-edges, just enough of a difference from myself to keep things interesting. so there! :)
I will basically listen to anything as long as it isn't country music. I have random, and sometimes BAD, taste in music: The Doors, Frank Sinatra, Nelly Furtado, Liz Phair, DJ Dara, Jessica Simpson, Timbaland, Britney Spears (yes, I know, I have AWFUL taste in music!!), Paris Hilton (enough already...I've admitted to my musical flaws), the Marie Antoinette soundtrack is SUPER, cheesy 80s pop, Justin Timberlake...basically anything that makes me want to get up and dance or sing loudly
Marie Antoinette, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Shag, The Holiday, Under the Tuscan Sun, and Chocolat. Also anything with Reese Witherspoon, Will Ferrell, and Nicole Kidman. And I LOVE old Marilyn Monroe movies. Or any old movie, really. Musicals, too, even though they can be so unbelievably corny.
Umm...I am totally Amish and gave up television somewhere around Thanksgiving 2006 and I do not miss it (and no I don't even have the local channels, thank you very much!!).
Too many to mention! Among my favorite others are Marian Keyes, Jodie Picoult, Emily Giffin, Gregory Maguire, Jennifer Weiner, Jennifer Sturman, Kathleen Tessaro, Jennifer Lancaster, Sophie Kinsella, J. K. Rowling, Brett Easton Ellis, and Kirsten Lobe. Or any book set in Paris or London. Or biographies or period pieces related to Marie Antoinette or Palace Versailles. Travel memoirs. Domino magazine, Town & Country, Self, Vanity Fair, British Glamour, and any cooking magazine.
My mom and dad. Martha Stewart (yes, I strive to be a domestic diva, but without all of that insider trading and jail time!) because she is the queen of personal reinvention. Marilyn Monroe because of her ability to radiate self-confidence. AJ for always telling me to just believe in myself. But not Mike. LOL! :)
