Glitter GraphicsHaz started writing and playing music in the early nineties in his native Scotland. Along with some friends, he cut his teeth experimenting with a kit of digital and analog gear. After migrating to Australia in 2003, Haz really began to find his own sound. This has led him to move away from the more mechanical sounds of traditional electronic music in favour of an ever-changing palette of real instruments. The sounds you hear in his recent material – acoustic and electric guitar, bass, drums, piano – are performed by Haz live in his home studio and are the key to his unique, and evolving sound. As a fan of talented musicians like Nick Drake, Iron & Wine, John Fahey, Sufjan Stevens, Boards of Canada, and Bob Dylan, Haz’s primary source of inspiration these days is the acoustic guitar, in all its varied forms. He samples finger-picked melodies and strummed chord progressions then mangles them beyond recognition, layering them into his tunes with warm bass notes, filtered analogue pads, resonant squelches, and modulated pulses from vinatge analogue synths.Beneath all of this fuzzy logic, is a backdrop of field recordings, collected on his daily coastal walks or weekend camping trips around the Sydney region, from the Blue Mountains to Palm Beach and to finish, the mixes are washed through distortion and noise units with a dash of reverb, melding the elements together into a warm analogue audio soup.
