As an artist, my interests lie in the power of humor and exploring how the arts can question and play around with our perceptions of reality, opening up audiences to the possibilities of the moment.
After much work in comedy and Live Art, I found myself working in the world of the fool. This world has been with us since the dawn of exsistential thought and this provoking and terrorfying realm will continue to exsist whilst we are still struggling with the balance between light and dark, life and death, man and woman, good and evil. Through humor, the fool trips the light fantastic between binary oppositions, turning all rules and structures of conduct on their heads. I'm interested in this work from the point of view that Post-Modernist culture is an exciting state of flux, where all the rules are being called into question. By embracing the fool we are embracing our capacity to accept change and celebrate creation. The fool never takes anything for granted. Nothing is safe or sacred. With the question mark as our crucifix, all is open to renewed observation and witty remark.
As a Theatre Practitioner I specialise in working with contemporary fooling and clowning. I am currently working for the world famous fool Jonathan Kay as his Director of Fooling, producing his tours and project managing his ambitions to create a Nomadic Academy of Fools in creative partnership with the Arts Council, BAC, Winchester Hat Fair and the Nightingale Theatre. In the past I have also worked with Angela De Castro, performing in the HaHa Harmonics Clown Choir at the Mime Festival 2005 and was involved with helping Jon Jordon in the creation stages of the CIRCA Clown Army.
I also specialise in organising events that supports artists in trying out new work and that brings the arts to new audiences. In particular street arts festivals, weekend festivals and cabarets. I am a member of 3rd Heaven Productions, which works in collaboration with Fire Toys Ltd. to put on weekend festivals and cabarets that promote and develop traditional and contemporary arts and circus skills. These events include The Fire Gathering, The Great Escapade and Spamstock. I have also worked for Zap Art for the last two years, project assisting with the Streets of Brighton, a two day streets arts festival that takes place each year as part of the Brighton Festival. And last but not least, I'm part of a new media collective in Brighton.
