About Me

My middle name--the name I use--is Alison. Once, in 3rd grade, a mean boy named Ali made it his business to torture me; he even hit me with his math book. Evil rat bastard! Therefore, I don't answer to Ali or Al (which was his nickname). I do, however, answer to A, but never, ever to my legal first name, which you'll only discover if you know me well.As you might've guessed, I'm a gender theory geek. Not just... I'm also an activist and (perhaps) aspiring scholar. I care very much about sex worker's rights, gender/sex, LGBT issues, sexuality, harm reduction, anti-racist movements, and ethical politics. Have I mentioned that I'm progressive? Hee! Don't worry; I'm okay with dissent, as long as it's respectful. And, yes, I do have a sense of humor... at least, that's what I tell myself. What else, you ask? I am mightily obsessed with my beautiful, wonderful, perfect cats... Reilley, Gilbert, George, and Shannen. Unfortunately, Gilbey and Georgie live with my ex, so I don't see them often. I miss my babies! When I'm not studying, working (I used to be a scholarly editor), or obsessing over my critters, I do leave the house. I enjoy coffee shops, bookstores, independent movie theaters, quality dining, hiking, and dive bars. The club scene isn't my bag, but I can be found dancing like a rabid wombat on a shockingly regular basis. Bad A.That said, I am also an avaricious reader, frustrated writer, laid-back femme, graduate student, and shoestring traveller. I relocated to San Francisco from Washington, DC. On 27 August. Two days later, I started my MA in Women Studies at SFSU (I plan on earning a dual MA in Women Studies and Social Work or Human Sexuality Studies). Yeah, when I grow up I'll be a non-profiteer/scholar. Beat that!Best, Alison
