RODDY ROD

About Me

CEO/RAPPER/PRODUCER/WRITER/ENGINEER/DIRECTOR....BUT IF YOU CAN'T SAY IT ALL THEN JUST SAY "BIG BUSINESS"--------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------"I don't see it as that big of a deal". That's the answer that 23 year old Detroit rapper known as "Roddy Rod" gives when asked about his choice to perform double duties on his debut album being the sole producer on the entire project. "It's something to brag about when I wanna talk shit on a song, but it was really the only choice I had at one point. I just wanted to rap." ____________________________________________________________ __ Raised by his grandparents on the Eastside of Detroit, Michigan, he might not come off sounding like your typical underground rapper.......or typical rapper period for that matter. No drugs, alcohol thugging or clubbing type mentality to be heard when he raps. " I don't do drugs..I don't drink, smoke, club, none of that shit. Yea I'll say that I don't do that shit but if you wanna do it then do yo thang, I'm just gone tell you how I get down". ____________________________________________________________ __ Careful listen to some of his songs and you can tell exactly what Rod is about....getting money. Something that he admits wasn't on his mind several years ago. "I just wanted to rap...just write. I'm glad that my grandparents put up with me and long they did cause I refused to get a job for the longest unless it was a dream job or something easy." ___________________________________________________________ Rod quickly humbled himself and got on his grind working whatever job he can find and saving up his money. After several years on the grind he built his own studio and start his own Label "BIG BUSINESS". " I'm doing everything I wanted to do now, ya know." Now he's on the pace to put together his first Independent attempt called..you guessed it...."BIG BUSINESS". "It was the first thing that popped in my head when I started getting everything together so I rolled with it." ____________________________________________________________ _ The young rapper's style can be described as a fastpaced onslaught of rhymes with slick wordplay. He's says it just comes out like that " I just like to rhyme and think of slick shit to say when I'm rhyming a million words and syllables. I like to experiment with it though." ____________________________________________________________ _ After listening to a basic 808 track like "Get Money" and then going to very complex beat like " I Don't Believe This" to the infectious "Got It Like Me" to the hard rock sound of "Formal Introduction" the same experimental statement can be said about his production. "People aren't gonna know what to expect on the next track.I would make a couple beats and then sit there and try to forget how I made those beats, and then try to make something that sounded nothing like the last beats I made. It's hard to make different types of beats then everyone else when all the rappers want the same type of beats. It's also hard to go looking for different type of beats when everyone's making beats that the majority of rappers are gonna like. You can't blame them. So I'll just make my own beats..and rap over them." ____________________________________________________________ __ Rod will not only be producing every track on the album but also be executive producing the album, not to mention recording and mixing it. "And then I'm gone go out and promote it, it's that simple. BIG BUSINESS." ____________________________________________________________ ___ "I didn't want to make an album that sounded like I did 50 songs and trimmed it down to 15. I thought about how I wanted the album to sound as a whole and now I'm making it. I'd rather spend 5 days on a beat then do 5 beats in one day, for real. The beat might not be that hot to other people but I'm gone love it cause I hear different stuff then other people cause I made it, and I feel like that's gone help me write the song." ____________________________________________________________ __ "Bottom line..the album is me. Production, Lyrics, whatever, if you don't like the album then it's probably just me you're not liking cause I'm gone keep it real and ain't gone stray to far off the subject of the album....." do something with your life". Now that's what BIG BUSINESS is all about.
