I started playing guitar around 1978 inspired by Ted Nugent, Rush, Rainbow, Judas Priest, Aerosmith, UFO, Thin Lizzy, and Blue Oyster Cult. I soon discovered more and more metal and hard rock bands in the early 80s that inspired me to obsession - Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Accept, Metallica, Motorhead, Lizzy Borden, Picture, Vandale, Warning, Satan Jokers, Mercyful Fate, Nightmare, Queensryche, 220 Volt, Overdrive, Fates Warning, Loudness, Raven, Trance, Helloween...the list is endless! Some of my influences and guitar heroes: Uli Jon Roth, Michael Schenker, Tony MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore, Gary Moore, John Norum, Jonas Hansson, Yngwie Malmsteen, David Gilmour, Alan Morse, Kiko Loureiro....many many more!My brother Mike (vocals) and I started the band Discovery in 1984 with John Kirsch on guitar, Dave Patterson - bass, Robert Sumpter/Scott Bender/Tod Hobart - drums. We recorded a succession of demos but only played one show! We then evolved to a more progressive metal band, Held Under that featured myself, Mike on vocals, Steve Oliver - drums, Bob Shook - guitar, Phil Collier - bass. We recorded one full length album titled Dying Breed in 1991 on our own Frightfully Groovy label and played tons of local shows around Seattle. That band broke up a couple years later and since then I played in an alternative band called Treble Lift along with old bandmate Dave Patterson from 1999 to 2003.I just retired from playing with 80s metal tribute band Hair Nation. Looking forward to what lies ahead musically - whatever that ends up being!
