About Me
This is Tara, and I am changing up this profile. I am sick of seeing it the same ol way, and alot has changed since it was set up.
As many of you know, my mom is fighting cancer so here is a benefit letter that we have come up with. You can also look at my page and get information, or you can look up the benefit page (flipfloppin4life) as I will keep posting info on all 3 pages.Benefit for MERRY WALKERMy name is Tara Langham and I am trying to put together a benefit for my mom, Merry Walker, who has been fighting METASTATIC PANCERATIC CANCER for almost 2 years. We first found out about the cancer in October of 2006 at which time she had a major surgery where they removed part of her pancreas, liver, stomache, and intestines. Before she was completly healed from the surgery, her work forced her to come back on Jan. 4, 2007 and she worked the whole time she was going through her chemo and radiation treatments. She finished up her treatments and was considered in remission, and they told us the cancer was gone in Sept. 2007. Merry was told that she would need to return to the doctor every 3 months for the next year for testing and scans to make sure that the cancer did not come back.
Well, at her second 3 month check up they found a blood clot in her portal vein (in the liver) and admitted her back into St. Lukes where she was put through more testing and scans and we found out on April 14th 2008 that the cancer was back, and it is in her liver.
My mom is and always has been a very independant person, and as I stated already, she worked through her last treatment, but she is unable to return to work at this time due to the pain that she is in and the medications that she has to take. She has never been one to ask for anything. She is only 46 years old and has two young grandchildren ages 8 and 4.
I am doing this to help take some of the stress off of my mom because she seems to be more worried about making sure everything is taken care of on the financial end rather than being worried about her treatment. There are hospital bills upwards of $500,000 and that does not include the medications that she has to have to help keep her from getting sicker from treatment. She has been with her job for more than 7 years and has never had to use her insurance, but now, when she NEEDS to use it, they (the insurance company) has taken it upon themself to decide that she does not need the medications that the doctors are giving her because they are too costly. She can not go on disability because it will cancel out her life insurance policies, and her credit union has done something which has already caused her to lose a couple of policies.
There is an account set up at Woodforest National Bank ("benefit accout for MERRY WALKER").
We are looking at having a physical benefit on August 9, 2008 where there will be live entertainment, we will be selling B-B-Q plates, having auctions, and raffles. So we are also looking to get atleast 25 briskets donated, along with chicken, sausage, and all of the fixings to go with B-B-Q, and any items that could be auctioned off or put in a raffle.
If you could help out you would never undertand how much it means to me and my family. You can contact myself, or my best friend Kathy Pinckert for any other information or you can find us on myspace.com/flipfloppin4life which is a benefit page that has been set up and we post info on there as well.Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Tara Langham and family,
