"And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside;
and the birds came and devoured them."
A corroding molestation of 1960’s melancholic pop by 1980’s garage drone, Sydney based indie three-piece, The Waysiders, have a sound that has drawn comparisons to Sonic Youth, The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Velvet Underground. Beneath a collapsed wall of sound, contorted guitars tangle with a grinding rhythm section, to create a drearily darkened, yet happy plaything.
The band has performed alongside a host of local favourites including Cut off your Hands, Mercy Arms, Van She, Ghostwood, and Children Collide. In late 2008 “Crashâ€, a song Richard Kingsmill has referred to as “timelessâ€, received rotation on Triple J. The band went on to become a Triple J feature artist and was subsequently selected to play at the Triple J hottest 100 party 2009 with Grinspoon and The Dukes of Windsor. “Crash†was also recently used in a skateboarding film collaboration between Slam Skate Magazine and Billabong. While two tracks are being used in an upcoming a surfing documentary by Rip Curl.
The band recently recorded a string of tracks at Big Jesus Burger Studios, Sydney. The five tracks were produced and engineered by John Stevanoni and later mastered by Mike Marsh at the Exchange, London (Klaxons, Oasis, Cut Copy).
“Why did it take me so long to find out about these guys? Great punk flavoured indie. Simple and catchy and honest...â€
-Dan Buhagiar, Triple J
“Catchy, fuzzed out indie from a solid Sydney group - all of these tracks are good and their live shows are just as strong.â€
-Nick Findlay, Triple J
