Welcome to the official page for your fatboy RapsodyTha6ft3 aka Rap6 aka Smokey DaBrer aka Mr Angry YA HEARD!
Rapsody the 6ft3 (aka Rap6) has been a part of the entertainment biz from a young age. But people outside his circle really started to notice the bigman from around 1993. Alongside his cousin he formed a rap group called Xtra Large (to be renamed as Paragon in 1995), and they started to perform at open mics and competitions.
Between 1994 and present Paragon have released and collaborated on many songs and albums. The 2 cousins formed a music production company called True Headz Musical Entertainment. Also a record company called No Dough Records, which managed to get worldwide distribution for it’s releases. Which in itself is a rare thing for a UK based black music operation especially without industry connections.
Paragon’s music garnered fantastic reviews for their music production and writing skills around the world. With numerous live shows, radio & TV appearances under their belts, Paragon proved that you could be successful with an intelligent, introspective and fun-loving approach to rap music.
To Rap6 the live experience is what it was all about. Interaction with the crowd. The call and response. The people reciting the lyrics back as he held out the microphone. That energy and personality transfers easily onto radio, of which Rap6 has made many appearances. Including Radio1, Kiss FM, and numerous community radio stations.
Hosting events was then another way for Rap6 to interact with his core audience, and spread the positive vibe in a scene notorious for it’s aggression and negativity. Any event that showcased up and coming young talent Rap6 wanted involvement. The first event he hosted was back in 1996 alongside Jonzi D in the infamous Wag Club. Many more were to follow.
One of the more prestigious events Rap6 began to be associated with is the JumpOff. A hip-hop sports entertainment company that embodies the same ethos with regards what it takes to be Hip Hop. The drive and determination, the swagger, the slight arrogance, but more importantly the talent. Rap6 began hosting the JumpOff in spring 2004. Both live in the UK and US, and across the world via the network jumpoff.tv.
Over the years Rap6 has hosted numerous live events from community halls to stadium size arenas. Also he has been on numerous TV channels presenting, being interviewed or performing. Some of these include BBC, Channel4, ITV, MTV, and various cable/satellite channels, in countries all over the world.
Not convinced the small screen is big enough to hold him, Rap6 was approached to appear in a cinema feature film. Never having acted before Rap6 flipped what could have been a daunting experience into his next calling card. The film Life & Lyrics starring Ashley Walters hit cinemas in late 2006. Rap6 played a dj and had a recurrent role throughout the film.
The future… well only time will tell.
Rap6, rapper, producer, presenter, event host, actor, performer… or simply Hip Hop’s big personality.
